Computer won't boot

My computer won't load up, it goes to a page saying to hit either DEL or F11 to boot but nothing happens

it won't let me hit delete. When it loads up it tells me to hit to DEL or F11 but nothing happens, its like the keyboard isn't working but hit the Num Lock and it lights up. If I put Windows XP cd in to boot off of it won't do anything. This problem started when I was trying to install my scanner. I went to hit hte open button on the cd drive to put the cd in but I hit the off button instead and then I quickly unpluged the scanner from the usb port, could this have damaged the motherboard?

My computer (3.0 GHz Pentium 4 with Asus P4P800-E Deluxe mobo) will boot to the POST screen, and it successfully identifies all of my hardware (memory, hard disk, DVD-ROM drive, etc.), but then won't...

Checked your RAM chips? Remove them and boot up and see if it will beep. If you have another DVD drive, swap it and try again. The board battery rarely goes, and only change it when it is not keeping the date/time etc, it won't help in outputting video.

I insert restore disk and nothing happens

Hi there.
If you don't have the option of hitting F12 to change the boot order to the CD/DVD just as the computer starts up then you will have to enter the bios to change the boot order.
Restart the machine and hit either Del or Esc to enter the bios, look for the boot order and set the CD/DVD as first boot device, hit F10 and exit the bios, the computer will restart and you should now be able to boot from the CD/DVD.
Please post back with the results and if you need anymore help.

Good luck and thanks for using FixYa!!

My old hdd does not work on my hp pavilion gx823,it comes up press f11 to continue and nothing else happens

If you're not using the operating system from your old drive, go into your bios (usually by pressing Del, F1, F2, F10 or F12 when the computer starts) and set your first boot device to the original hard drive for your pavillion. This may be found in 'boot device priority' or a similar label in your bios.

Trying to restore Dell Inspiron 1501 to factory settings.

don't hit ctrl, f11 instead hit F8 and then go into Dell Factory Image Restore, that will wipe, format and reinstall all the factory software that's stored on the Recovery Drive (usually the D: drive) good luck.

Acer daulcore processer motherboard model mcp61sm-am

ok fair enough.... boot the computer and watch the screen.... you need to watch for the key to enter setup.... delete key seems to be the most popular but i've had computers use f1 and f2, f11 and f12.... if it goes to fast hit pause as it gets to the point where it tells you the key to hit to enter setup.... after you are in change the boot sequence to boot to cdrom..... hit f10 and save the changes... reboot to the cd and continue with your install
