PIXMA MP610 can't scan without ink (makes no sense)

I seem to have the very same problem... Is it really not possible to scan digital data to my computer without the printer having enough ink (even though scanning requires no ink) ?? If so, we have a significant design flaw (or ink selling scam) there with the PIXMA MP610

You can scan when out of ink. You have to press and hold the reset button (red triangle inside a circle) for five seconds which tells the printer to ignore ink problems and continue.

Yes, could be just for selling ink, but Canon like many others, Brother, HP, Samsung, all are the same way.Any error whether it's ink or printer failure will stop you from scanning. Many people stay away from all in ones for just that reason...

Lost manual for MP610. How do I change ink?

Here's the way to change ink in the MP610. Its pretty straightforward, and I have tried to give you pretty comprehensive instructions below. However, you can download the instruction manual for the MP610 off their website if you still have trouble after reading the following:
Instructions for when ink tank runs out of ink in Canon Pixma MP610
1. Open Paper Output tray (finger fits in rounded indent in the Paper Output tray--open gently
2. Make sure machine is on and lift the Scanning Unit cover which will uncover the ink tanks. Once unit is opened the print head holder will move to the center automatically.
3. When/if you leave the scanner unit open for a while, the print head holder will move back to the right, but you can move it to the center as in the action described in 2 by repeating the opening of the scanner lid sequence. Whatever you do, DON'T move it yourself if it doesn't come into the center automatically. Do wait until the ink tank holder stops!
4. Open the inner cover and remove the empty ink tank(s) the empty one/ones will be flashing fast-(red light) so it will be easy to see which one to remove. If you have more than one empty tank to replace, make sure to do them one at a time.
5. Removing the packaging from the new tank by peeling off the orange tape in the direction of the arrow and make sure it is completely off and then.remove the orange protective cap.
6. Snap the new tank in place so it is in the same position as the one you just removed. The ink lamp will light up red when you press down firmly on the little square icon and you will also hear it snap into place.
7. Follow the same steps as in 5 and 6 for each additional tank you need to replace.
8. When you have replaced all the tanks with new ones, close the inner cover and then make sure to close the scanning unit cover.
The machine will automatically perform the print head cleaning cycle, so be patient. Once all the noise stops you are good to go!

Cannot scan to mp610, but can print (both using bluetooth)

Regrettably, scanning over bluetooth is not possible. Both theoretically and practically. Scanning requires huge amount of data packets to transmitted that is not possible over bluetooth.

The short Question Is there a way for me to scan without ink on my MP610? The descriptive question. I have a Cannon Mp610. I previously had success scanning by installing the drivers and the software but...

if the printer will let you run it without an error for the ink, than yes, scan to your pc. usually if you look there is an ink sensor like a button in a washing maching that allows it to spin only when the lid is closed, you follow me...anyway if you can find it sometimes you can fool the printer into thinking it has ink. other than that, if it wont let you than there isnt any way other than to get ink. this is why i always frown on buying the cute all in ones because if something goes, the whole thing goes.

My mp620 is out of ink but I just want to scan and it won't let me what do I do?

I have the same model. The only thing that work was simultaneously holding down the HOME and STOP buttons for about 5 seconds. The blinking yellow light stopped and I was able to scan.

My Canon MP610 printer suddenly isn't scanning well.

I fixed it!  My small black ink cartridge was out of ink.  I replaced it and 'Walla!' it worked just fine.  Who would have thought that would make the difference?

New Canon MP610 scanner makes loud noises

I own this model too. It is very quiet. Sounds like a problem inside unit. I had a different problem with mine so I emailed them. They were very helpful & are replacing my unit. You may want to email them. Here's the email address I used. Good luck.

If this was helpful plz take the time to rate this. Thank you kindly.
