My strimmer releases nylon cord involuntarily. This is without tapping it on the ground.

Hi Peter:
Check to see if the spring under the "bump" mechanism is missing, or not extending adequately. You could try stretching the spring a bit to see if that would help.

How do I replace cutting head in a Flymo contour 500 strimmer?

Stan try winding the cord in the opposite direction. It may just be wrongly wound. Also make sure it's the right diameter.

Once i cut strimmer wire to correct length, i then turn on power on strimmer, and without the wire touching anything it pops out long again.?

Ian your'e either not winding it the right way or your not getting the head to click in properly. Try winding the cord the opposite direction first.

Trying to undo the cord thing and it just keeps turning and won't come off

To insert a new cord, hold the round plastic container where the nylon cord comes out so it stops turning, then you can unscrew the bottom part of the plastic holder (retaining screw). The cover and inner reel will come off so you can wind new nylon cord onto the reel. Insert the ends of the nylon cords into the outlet holes and replace the cover and retaining screw.

Broken pull rope of Mantis Tiller

Remove the starter assembly from the side of the engine. Remove the balance of the old cord from the spool and purchase about 1-meter of replacement cord from a saw shop (it should be nylon, not cotton). Insert the new cord into the center slot/hole in the spool, melt the end, and tie an overhand knot. Wind the cord around the spool several turns in the same direction as the old cord, then pull on the cord to wind the return spring inside the spool. Wedge the spool to prevent rewinding, then continue to wind the cord until about 8-10 inches are left. Feed the cord end through the cord port and into the handle. Melt the cord end, then tie an overhand knot and pull the knot back into the cavity in the handle. Remove the spool wedge and test the pull of the cord--it should pull out smoothly and return fully without slack. Hope this helps!

GL 320 String trimmer - nylon string keeps breaking

It sounds like the sting is wound backwards. Try winding a short piece in the opposite direction. If it is backwards, it will be gone in a hurry.

Threading line on black & decker GL301 strimmer

Do you mean that the string keeps feeding as you try to operate the trimmer?

If so, you are winding the string on the spool the wrong way. Put the string on the spool in a clockwise direction. This should do it.
