Question about GPS

1 Answer

I have had a Garmin Nuvi 660 for 2 years now. While travelling in Florida last week with the unit on my dash and working properly I encountered heavy cloud cover. The unit said something like "poor satellite reception". It gave me an option to click ok on screen. I did. Eventually it lost the satellites and told me there was "no signal". The weather wasn't improving so I shut it off. A week later when I try to use it, it can't find a satellite (in clear weather). It stays in status "acquiring satellites" for minutes. Eventually it asked me, "are you in Florida"? I answer "yes". It shows me a correct date and asks me if this is the date? I say yes. It goes back to "acquiring satellites" but is never able to find a signal. Any suggestions?

GPS unit quit working

Make sure your unit is not in SIMULATOR MODE.

Press the wrench at the main menu, then the Gear (system) icon. Then look for the option that says SIMULATOR. Make sure that function says OFF. With it ON, you can Simulate a driving route but your GPS will not be working in real time mode.

Garmin Nuvi takes a long time to Acquire satellite

No. 98% of the time it took 45-56 seonds for your NUVI 660. Thats the compagny set up time acquisition and it did very well.

Be sur you had your flip antenna parallel to earth surface.
660 has THE BEST SIRF Chipset for acquiring satellite.

I had 2 NUVI 660 since 2 years. It work much better than those new 7xx series who it really took 2-3 minutes to acquire satellite.

Be sure you update your version to the last one.

Hard wiring the Nuvi 660

Make sure you use the proper kit for hardwiring. The Garmin DC adapter setp down the voltage from 12vdc to 5vdc. If you don't get the right kit you could fried your unit.

Garmin Nuvi 350 GPS, not working

Hello, Here was my problem. I was traveling at 60mph yesterday and my Nuvi 360 dislodged and fell down with a huge impact inside my car. I came home and tried to look for any damage. Unfortunately Nuvi had stopped to continue beyond loading maps screen. I tried rebooting , but the problem persisted. It would take me to reboot screen, but after screen calibration, when it came to loading map screen, again went blank. I tried this and just simple starting by pushing power button several times but to no avail. I called technical support, eho advised me to to just simply connect it to my labtop and leave it that way for 3 to4 hours. Bingo!, in the next 30 mins, I accidentally switched my laptop top off, but Nuvi had started to work all fine.

Garmin nuvi 660 forget my pin

The only options you have when it comes to a locked unit is to enter the correct PIN, go to the location where the PIN was set, or send the unit back to Garmin. There is no way to unlock a PIN locked unit without the correct PIN or location.
