Thnak you for that, I thought it might be the thermostat. Trouble is, its well out of the warranty period, do you know where I could buy a new thermostat? I know someone who could fit it for me... Thanks.

Hi,

As the weather is getting warmer for many people their freezer and/or refrigerator do not work right because of a dirty condenser coil...there are also many other things that can go wrong. If you are hearing a clicking or buzzing then check out the last two tips.

If your refrigerator is running but warm, then…

Check out this tip that I wrote about that... it is a great place to start trouble shooting your unit...and something that you can do rather then calling a repair person to do a simple thing for you...

Fridge/Freezer

Probably be cheaper to get new one, it has probably had the compressor fail or a leak in the cooling system.

there is a evaporator defrosting problem; ice building-up. the evap fan is mounted right on top of the evap coil. this will get progressively worse; and, the fan will get completely jammed with ice; and stop altogether. your fridge will get warm and the freezer will not cool properly. you should get it looked at asap..

My refrigerator s not workin. I don't you guys can

when you open the freezer door do you hear the fan blowing,if not you have a bad evap fan motor,if that's ok is there ice or frost on the back wall of the freezer,if so you have a defrost problem,if there's a timer advance it with a screw driver until you hear a click and the evap fan shuts off,you just put the machine into defrost mode, take off the inside back wall of the freezer,if the heater is on you have a bad timer,if not check the thermostat and the heater with a meter it's not a bad idea to change out the both of them if the heater is bad so you can shut the control off cut the wires going to the thermostat or if they plug in bypass the thermostat and put power right to the heater, turn the control back on and if the heater comes on you'll know you have a bad t stat, you'll hear a loud crackling noise when the heater comes on it's just the ice, your machine might have an adaptive defrost board in it that could be the problem, you'll need your meter to read out the heater and the thermostat, the thermostat has to be cold to read it out, good luck

Don't know the model/brand off the top of my head...

But: If the compressor is warm/hot, but nothing is happening, I ask this:
Even if the fridge is not cooling, is the compressor running, or dead silent?
If silent, but warm, do you hear a "Click" every so often ? Maybe 3 to 5 minutes apart, followed shortly by a 2nd click ?
If so, most likely the compressor has seized, and this is the over-current trip acting (thermal, so it needs time to cool).
Big problem if it is the compressor (expensive).

The only other thing that might cause a similar occurrence, would be if the compressor has a Start capacitor. If this has died, the compressor will not turn - just sit there getting warmer, as the over-current trip acts.

If it was a dead thermostat, the compressor wouldn't get power, and would be cold.

Zanussi fridge freezer wont stop making a whirring noise

Sounds like the unit is goosed and is trying none stop to get the temperature down in the fridge.

That is of course unless the ice is building up like an iceberg inside the cabinet in which case the thermostat has gone

Noisy motor on fridge side which whirred to a stop

Hi, It sounds to me like the evaporator fan motor is faulty. They will quit working after they make a noise like that, bearings and windings. You have a door switch that stops the fan when you open the door, that opens the contacts on the motor. It should have come back on when closing door. Now you say it has quit cooling,so if this motor has not come back on and is not running quietly, it will need to be removed and replaced. It may be difficult for you if you are going to do this yourself, but if your up to it, you can save yourself some $.You can buy a new one at an appliance parts house, or get all of the info from you're unit and go online to order one. They have universal motors to fit also.It would be a 120volt sealed motor with a plastic or aluminum blade.Try and remove it yourself if you are able, if not you will need to call out the tech which can get costly. Best of Luck to you and please keep me posted.Have a good night, Sincerely,

Smeg Fridge light

What you need to locate is the door switch mechanism for the fridge. These are normally located towards the top of the door and protrude so that when the door closes the switch is pushed in. To find out if you have a problem with the switch just press it when the door is open and the light should go off. The switch itself can appear in various forms either as a protruding rod or a curved plate which pushes upwards against the door side when it closes. If I could draw in this section it could be better explained. But if you look around the inside of the fridge on the side away from the door hinge then you should find something you can push. Sorry to be this vague. If you do need a replacement switch they are normally quite simple to change depending on where they are located, most are two screws, or just a push in type. Hope this has been of some help.
