GE Side by Side Refrigerator

Clciking noise (by 5 users)

posted by imrm on Nov 21, 2007

My refrigerator stopped dispensing water & ice. I unplugged the unit and checked to make sure that water is coming to the main line where it is connected, and it sure was. But after plugging the unit back to power outlet, it started making clicking noise like the ticking of a clock, only louder. There does not seem any end to this noise. In addition water and ice are still not getting dispensed and I think that refrigerator might not be cooling anymore either.

GE fridge started making a clicking noise (tic-toc) that lasts for at least 5 minutes. When the door is opened, we noticed that the digital temp readouts dimmed when the clicks occurred, flashing in sync with the clicks. These readouts also fail to illuminate altogether. Afterthe clicking stops, the compressor starts up and runs normally.

I am having the same problem and now my refrigerator and freezer are also not working. I have lost all of the food and don't know what to do to fix it. How do you bypass the motherboard?

I was having the same problem.

I read on fixya that there is a reliability issue with many models.

I called GE customer service. They sent a repair guy who swapped out the motherboard at no charge even though it was out of warranty.

Works great now.

2 of my neighbors' friges went out in the summer here in Las Vegas. They both lost all their food.

He said I was lucky because after the clicking noise begins, the motherboard usually crashes the next day. Mine clicked for a month.
