This is most likley one of two things. If you are using a rechargeble battery - it is not keeping a charge. When the camera detects low power it will usually shut itself down drawing in the lens for protection and shutting down. If the battery is gone passed it's time it will not take a proper charge. You will need to replace the battery.
Alternatively you may have a dodgy mechanism - some dirt or even internal component may be broken - in your zoom lens. If the lens cannot extend correctly the camera will automatically retract and power down so as not to cause further damage - for example you camera gets accidentally switched on whilst in the case, and the lens cannot come out.... bring it in for repair.

I know not a solution but hope it helps.
Regards
Thomas

Camera wont snap picture

As long as the orange light is on, the camera is not ready to make a picture. The focus area, should become green, to tell you the camera is in focus. Then you can press the shutter release button complete. Check the settings of the camera, and put it in automatic. When you put it in one of the manual modes pipe P M S or A, the camera will not take a picture when there is not enough lift or something else you did not take in account.
If the camera keeps this way, unless you switched to auto, it could be there is something going on. but let me know it auto des not work.

Take pictures, reads unable to recognize files, and doesnt even show i have taken a picture

The camera may require manually opening the shoot lense to achieve flash to capture pictures. Observe the camera buttons for every complementary buttons that may require activation prior to photo shoots. Usually smaller cameras with lenses may require manual lense adjustments prior to every photo shoot.

My camera's flash is not working and the icon of flash keeps blinking every time i try to click a photo. Also the camera works fine when I switch off the flash.

If its blinking then it meas that it is not adequately charged. The flash indicator will turn to steady orange if its properly charged.

When ever i take a picture, the orange light turns on acting like its going to take a picutre but it doesnt. When i take it off flash, it takes the picture.

The orange light blinking means the flash is charging, once the light goes off you can go ahead take picture with flash. Your light keeps blinking because the flash is not ready.
Try with fully charged batteries. If it won’t work, you may have an open fuse or something wrong with the flash circuit.

Canon digital camera

Hey jpmodell,
Whether or not you can use your old lenses on a new DSLR body depends on how old your lenses are and what model lenses they are. Modern Canon DSLR cameras use what is called the EF mount which was introduced by Canon in 1987. Canon lenses prior to 1987 have what is called the FD mount which will not directly mount onto new digital cameras. Some companies do make an adapter to allow the user to mount an FD lens onto an EF mount camera but it would provide very limited functionality. I hope this helps!

Sincerely,
Allan

Why can't I take photos in darker places without flash?

Not a big flash fan, that'll cost ya. Read on...

I'm just going to answer the last two questions. You have to have what are called fast lenses. These are lenses like the Nikkor 70-200 f2.8 ($1200) that make this possible. See my site gallery for examples. I will either do manual or sports setting, it depends on the amount of ambient light. I can't use flash, it's not permitted in my work. Thus, the fast lens f2.8 all the way through the mm range, is the only lens I can use to achieve this. Some lenses (less expensive of course) are rated and medium lenses, that is, at 70mm, they have a low f range of 2.8 and at 200 mm have a lower range at 5.2. Ouch.

That's simliar to squinting to see the results in a dimly lit room. Whereas the f2.8 lens through the whole range is like having your eyes wide open in a dimly lit room, no matter how much extra light was around.

In short, in order to not get a blurry picture, because of movement, you have to have your shutter go off above 1/250 or 1/500. But to get that you have to have enough light or the image will come out black. Thus, to compensate for both of those, you have to have a lens that is "fast" enough to read the light and yet stay high on the shutter speed.

Again, it'll cost ya.

OLYMPUS 410

It is something that seems to be a problem with the Stylus 410s. Olympus will not repair them unless they are under warrenty, I've tried. My best advice, and what I am in the midst of myself (I have 2 of these with the same problem) is to file with the BBB. Perhaps if enough complaints come through, they will begin to fix the stylus 410 defect as they should. Good luck. =)
