My sony vaio vgn-n365e screen is Dim

I have a sony VAIO, VGN-n365e and my screen has gone dim. I've changed out the inverter(purchased a used one off Ebay) and even went as far as changing the backlight and still nothing....I have a table lamp that I put up to the screen and I can see images on the screen. I have also adjusted the brightness with the function key, but still no luck. I have ran out of ideas and money, and I'm not sure what to do next.....anyone know how to solve this problem....or maybe even troubleshoot my inverter?

I've hooked it up to my television in the past and saw the image, I've also replaced the LCD....you think I need to replace the mother board? I have a lamp next to it and can see the screen(barely)

I purchased an inverter on ebay, it was previously used, do you think the new inverter and the old one are faulty......and how can I troubleshoot them?

  • nycoastie817 Jul 24, 2009

Do you think I should try maybe purchasing another inverter?

  • nycoastie817 Jul 24, 2009

I did try reconnecting the old inverter, it did exactly the same as the so called functioning used one that I purchased on Ebay.......I informed the seller and they issued me a full refund, so I suspect that they knew before hand that it was faulty. I ordered a new one last night so I'm crossing my fingers in hopes that it'll work....thanks for all your help

Could please connect it to the monitor or lcd if you could see the image clearly then it means you have to replace the LCD. If doesn't show nothing I believe your Video card is damaged with laptops you have replaces the whole motherboard . I hope it work

The fault could be a faulty CCFL lamp or inverter.
To determine if you have a LCD screen, inverter or video card problem, read this and follow these instructions.
Defective CCFL backlight, it may have the following symptom: Screen flashs on red/pink and off. Picture stays on in red and slowly be come normal. Picture flickering with dim display or appear black. Picture flickering on and off. All these symptoms indicate that the LCD backlight lamp (CCFL Lamp) has reached the end of the life and all you need to do is replacing the CCFL lamp.
Connect an external monitor to your laptop and power the monitor up first then the laptop, if you see the normal Windows images then the video card and laptop is OK and the problem is definitely the backlight. Dim image and/or dark display on the laptop's LCD screen indicates a faulty LCD backlight and it could be the inverter that supplies high voltage to the CCFL lamp or it is the CCLF lamp is nearly burnt out or burnt out, most likely this is the case.
The inverter can be replaced easily but the CCLF lamp is more time consuming and requires soldering skills.

If you can see a faint image on the LCD screen, the fault could be the CCFL lamp or the inverter.

If you can see a normal image on the external monitor then the video chip on the motherboard is OK.

Please refer to the information in the solution I posted to you.

Yes you could but not a second hand one.

Did you try using the inverter from your original LCD screen?

Sony Vaio vgn-fe590p, when starting up the screen lights up, but it is dim and blurry. Could this be the inverter, or the lcd screen is bad?

Start with drivers,http://esupport.sony.com/US/p/model-home.pl?mdl=VGNFE590P&template_id=1&region_id=1&tab=download#/downloadTab . Has it been damaged? Dropped, jarred, etc. It may be the monitor/graphics is going. Hard to say exactly. Is it overheating?

The display system of the vaio notebook went dim then finally died out.what is the possible problem and solution to the same

Hi akeyow..
Sounds like you have either a bad lcd screen or a bad lcd inverter.
To check to see if the screen is bad, connect the notebook to an external monitor that you know is working...if it works the you will have to replace the lcd screen.
If it doesn't work then the internal lcd inverter, will need replacement.
Both replacements take a better than average skill to replace, maybe best left to the pros...or sometimes you can check out YouTube and some people show you how to do it.

My Sony Vaio VGN-NR498E laptop with Windows Vista recently had some issues. The light in the screen seems to have went out. If you hold a lamp up to the screen you can make out the background of the screen...

A dim laptop lcd screen is either the result of 1) a faulty inverter which is a separate piece from the lcd screen or 2) a burned out backlight which is part of the lcd screen. In the majority of instances, the inverter is the cause of the problem and not the backlight as most people tend to assume and therefore does not require the purchase of a lcd screen.
I have done some research and it seems you can fetch a new inverter for around $59.00

Bluethooth for sony vaio vgn-n365e

A bluetooth adapter does not come standard on the vgn-n365e. It is available as an optional component, but unless you ordered this specifically, your machine does not support it. Bluetooth is not just software; if the laptop does not have the proper hardware built into it, you cannot use bluetooth.

The best way to check is to look at the Device Manager (click Start>>Run>>type in devmgmt.msc and hit enter. If you do not see a line that says Bluetooth Adapter, your machine will not support it.

Sony vaio vgn nr160e laptop - no display (intermittent). Attached monitor shows display fine and laptop works fine. Screen used to flicker intermittently (last few days).

You may have a defective CCFL backlight, it may have the following symptom: Screen flashes on and off or displays reddish pink hue. Picture stays on in red and slowly be come normal. Picture flickering with dim display or appear black. Picture flickers on and off. All these symptoms indicate that the LCD backlight lamp (CCFL Lamp) has reached the end of the life and all you need to do is replace the CCFL lamp.
To determine if the video card or the LCD is faulty, connect an external monitor to your laptop and power the monitor up first then the laptop, if you see the normal Windows images then the video card and laptop is OK and the problem is definitely the backlight. Dim image and/or dark display on the laptop's LCD screen indicates a faulty LCD backlight. It could be a faulty inverter that supplies high voltage to the CCFL lamp or it is the CCLF lamp is nearly burnt out, usually the CCFL lamp fails before the inverter.
The inverter can be replaced easily but the CCLF lamp is more time consuming and requires soldering skills.

I have lost my recovery data(sony vaio vgn n365e).where i can find this?

Hello,

If the data was on a recovery partition and that sector was destroyed, you will need the restore disk for your system. If you do have it, you can purchase a new one from Sony.

Good Luck

Sony Vaio Display problem

Hi,

Since the Sony Vaio VGN-CR220E works except that the display is dark, then it would be safe to assume that it is only the LCD display part that is the issue. Often LCD display (of laptops) are working but only that you can not see the actual display. One way to verify is to shine a flashlight at an oblique angle to the screen, semblance or part of the desktop could be seen s what you have done. If the desktop could be seen (albeit very very dark background) then it could either be the CCF Lamps (cold cathode florescent) or the inverter that powers the lamps.

Often, the defective component would be the inverter. It is relatively easy to replace the inverted. It is sometimes more difficult and challenging cracking open the casing of the display panel of the laptop than replacing the inverter. Additionally, inverters are readily available online. It is also not surprising that inverters for other brands/models would also be used in your Sony Vaio VGN-CR220E .

Of course another possibility is that there is just a loose connection or a cold solder in the LCD panel display's circuit boards.

This would be a good place to start for inverter boards. This is a nice tutorial if you are considering a DIY.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.
