When I flip the wall switch, the light comes on as expected. I can press any of the fan-related buttons on the remote and they work fine. The light button does nothing - the light stays on. Only two wires come into the unit (black and white) and the light kit is properly connected to the dangling connector, so this is not a wall-switch problem. I tried to get a manual from Hunter but the unit is too old. I looked online for a wiring diagram, but again could only find diagrams for more recent units with different wiring. The Receiver model is CP-9110R. Most of the wiring is as expected (pink to pink, gray to gray, yellow to yellow, B/W to B/W, black to black). The one oddball thing was there is a red wire coming from the fan assembly that is twisted in with all the white wires. Anyone know what that red wire is for? Anyone have a wiring diagram or instruction manual for this fan or receiver since Hunter isn't helping me (twice they said they would TRY to find a physical manual and get back to me). If the wiring is correct, then I may need to replace the receiver. It worked this way when I moved in, so I have no way of knowing if it ever worked correctly with the current wiring configuration.

wire connect to? Light works with all other wires connected to like colors - fan does not work. I have tried connecting the red fan wire(which apparently is wired to the actual fan) to black and black/white. In one case the fan works but there is a hum like something is energized, regardless of remote operation - in the other case fan does not work but there is a hum. In summary, where do you connect the red fan wire to? Does it connect to any receiver wires or what? Hunter's web site is terrible - no support for "older fans" I guess they don't really expect their fans to last very long. No manuals, diagrams - nothing. Would it really be that burdensome to scan and store these items for the consumer? The answer is, of course, no - it is easy to do this. Welcome to the 21st Century, Hunter. Normally, I have every manual for everything I have ever bought... just not this - figures....

I have an older (~10 yrs) Hunter ceiling fan (the model number is 28066) mounted with a 24'' downrod, and I need to remove it and replace the downrod with a shorter, 12'' downrod. The manual provided on Hunter's website ( http://www.hunterfan.com/uploadedfiles/Support/Owner_Manuals/41343.pdf ) seems to suggest that the downrod is permanently affixed to the piece that hangs through the cover (see pg. 10) , and furthermore the piece that covers the mounting plate seems to be flush with the ceiling and I'm not sure how to remove it, completely without damaging the ceiling, because after it is unscrewed it does not open far enough to allow access to the screws on the mounting plate. The fan was not mounted through the attic, so I am at a loss as to how to take down the fan, and once I do, I don't know how I'll be able to replace the downrod. Any help is appreciated; thanks.
