Check ur hdmi cables......... if u have spare ones change it....... if the problem still persists we wud like u to get back to us with the make and model of ur projection tv
have your power supply circuit board checked, there might be no supply voltage being given to the horizontal circuit board.... and also was there any lightning or electric surge when the tv was on?..... in that case there cud be a short or a blown cap insde the board..... projection tvs are known for their lethal voltages... so if ur not comfortable doing the job.. ask someone who knows something abt tvs to open the tv and look for potential burnt caps or loose solder connections...... always ensure the tv is unplugged before u open the unit....
since u say the previous owner had a green tint in the picture.... The first thing I check for this problem when doing a service call is
the screen control. It sounds like it needs to be turned down a bit.
The screen controls are in the front of the set. Pull off the front
speaker grill, you have to pull it off there are no screws and it's a
little tough to pull. Remove the panel behind the speaker grill.
The screen control is normally black with 6 controls. 3 controls
labeled Focus and 3 controls labeled Screens. The center controls are
for the green.
Find the controls that are labeled Green and turn it counter clockwise until the black is not green anymore.
If there is glue on the control, then, peel it off. You may have to adjust it a bit to get the right alignment.
When the set is turned on, only use one hand inside the set.
thank you for using Fixya and stay safe.....
have a nice day and good luck

Sounds like you have cold solder joints, or solder joints on the
mainboard which have cracked over time due to thermal expansion and
contraction of the circuit board.
Repair is to find and
reflow the cracked joints. You may want to consider hiring the services
of a reputable repair professional to deal with getting your set back
into normal operating condition.
In the meantime, stop using
that TV in its current condition! Continued use in that state could
make the problem worse or create new headaches that may only allow for
a more expensive repair bill.

Previous owner said the picture was there but had a green tint that he couldn't adjust out. If memory serves me well, prior owner also said it worked for video games when hooked up to playstation2 console.
Not HDMI capable. Has S Video. TV was manufactured in July, 1997.
Sorry. Left out the important part.

Is there a way to access menu without remote or, reset settings so menu is visible? The convergence symptom sounds reasonable but I'm no TV repair person.
