If there is a spark, then it's probably the timing, which is either, too far advanced, or retarded.
Good luck with that.

Dolmar ps 34 or makita dcs34

Replace the spark plug and get some starter fluid. Add FRESH gas/oil mix. Spray a couple squirts in the spark plug hole, replace the spark plug and try to start it. I would add Sea Foam (get it at any parts store) to the gas tank and let it run for ten minutes. Go to the manufacturers website, support, and search for your saw by model/serial number.

Makita dpc7311 wont start after heating up. first start pretty easy after warming up will not idle.

The deposits on the spark plug are not a real big concern. The issue may be related to hoses that are cracked due to age or the jets on the carb may need to be reset. There is a high and low screw to do this. Also make sure that the woodruff key that holds the flywheel to the crank is not loose.

I overfilled engine oil in my Briggs Straton engine on my snow thower ... now can't get it started .... can oil foul the spark plug ?

Hi and welcome to FixYa, I am Kelly. Depending on just how much you over-filled it yes it will fowl the spark plug. Most of the time though a small engine failing to start is either fuel or ignition related. Remove the spark plug and check for ign. spark and OIL in the cylinder by pulling the recoil through. Reinstall the spark plug (Just a note about an oil fouled spark plug.... if you clean it with fuel you must make sure that it is dry or it will not work. Spark plugs are cheap I recommend you buy a new one.
Try removing the air filter and adding just a small splash of gas into the carb. throat. then see if it tries to start. If it does but does not run you have a fuel supply problem. This is caused by debris in the carb bowl and fuel orifice jet. You will need to clean out the bottom of the carb and the orifice. Possibly there is debris in the fuel tank outlet, the fuel filter or fuel bowl below the fuel selector depending on your engine model. .I can help you with carb / fuel system cleaning procedures but would like a "complete" ENGINE model - type - and serial number so I can pass you the procedures applicable to YOUR engine.

Thanks for choosing FixYa,

it sounds like a fuel problem.
first drian fuel out of tank.
i know you have already cleaned the carby but dis assemble carby and clean with carby cleaner.
re assemble carby & fill tank with fresh fuel.
also clean air filter & check oil level & check spark plug,if the spark plug is black and the tip is blocked with oil build up, then replace.

Wont start has spark , new fuel, new oil.

Is the spark plug black?
It won't run well with a carbonized plug.

Is the main jet in the carb plugged?
If the plug is dry after trying to start it.....your fuel is not getting into the engine and most likely a plugged carb jet..
Also.....Is the fuel switch it in run position?

If the generator has sat for a while with fuel left in the carb/fuel tank.......the most common problem is a plugged varnished dirty carburetor in need of a good cleaning.
Always shut the fuel off and let the carb run dry (run until the engine stops)before storing.
Add fuel stabilizer to any remaining fuel or drain the tank before storing.

Bike has sat up for a year or so,wont start, cranks fine, has spark, maybe bad fuel ?

If no fuel stabilizer was added while the bike sat for a year or so.
It is most likely bad fuel with gum deposits.
This can can create some problematic symptoms for you.

It is vital the bad fuel to be cleared from tank/lines and carbs.
You may need the fuel system cleaned as the gum deposits can cause major headaches in the carbs and jets. If the system is not cleaned and even after you get the bike running, you could be miles away and have the fuel fowl jets/injectors, causing shut down.

Check the spark plugs carefully. Oil on the plugs may just need cleaning. Once you get the bike running the oil should burn off if the rings are still in good shape.

Motor needs clean Air, Clean Gas and a hot spark.

Good luck!
