if you have problems with vista i normaly do a system restore if i have a problem with something that i am having trouble with fixing that usually works, vista is so buggy i just give up after a hour of trying to fix stuff and do a system restore i had to tweak vista so much to get it to run right thats why so many people are downgrading to xp, is the right drivers installed for the wireless?

Go into componant services and turn them all on, it's comman with vista to have this happen when using certain optimizing and anti virus programs, like spybot. Your network may have been turned off. Also just try using the wizard to establish a new connection instead of trying to fix the one you are troubleshooting, I had a similar problem ith an HP laptop and vista, and it had some services stopped or set to manual, the reset of the services fixed it.

Check out in the msconfig "Run command" and see whats booting up on that pc. Delete all but Antivirus & firewall. Maybe a good idea to run Malwarebytes in safe mode also (F8) and do a full scan then delete all infections. >> http://www.malwarebytes.org/

Once this has completed, be sure to checl that all the updates from microfost are completed. Then run Ccleaner again.

Hope that fixes it for you !!

How do i speed up my wifi?

There're a number of ways to "broaden" your Broadband Wi-Fi link.

(a) move laptop closer to the Wireless Router, and/or remove signal obstructions between laptop and Wireless Router.

(b) move the Wireless Router to a channel other than the default (channel 6).
HOW: login to the Router management pages at 192.168.1.1, and change it.

(c) upgrade your Wireless-G router to Wireless-N (with the Linksys WRT310N you've aready done that, however).

(d) Switch from Wi-Fi to hardwired with a Cat 5e ethernet cable - you'll have better throughput and fewer CRC errors with a hardwired link.

(e) Recognize that 99% of the time the upload/download speed bottleneck is not the Broadband link, but the computer laptop system itself, so the best way to increase the speed of your Wi-Fi link is to optimize the computer system. Normally, increasing the physical link speed is wasted time and money - something those Verizon FIOS commercials will never tell you.

Put your money into upgrading RAM and running fewer startup group processes eating into system virtual memory (SWAPFILE.SYS) space.

If you can access only trusted web sites (typical of a workplace workstation), then you can optimize browser operation by eliminating Real-Time Anti-Virus shields such as: (File System Shield) scan on open, (File System Shield) scan on write, HTTP shield, Network shield, suspicious behavoir shield, Script Shield, and IM Shield. This will help to optimize your browser's activities. Web browser software is well known to be among the least efficient software ever devised. The typical user will have half a dozen Browser Extensions, and a dozen or more Browser Plug-ins, each further burdening an already over-burdened Browser. Most Users don't even know how many Browser Extensions and Plug-ins they're running, and inadvertently permit new ones to be installed daily.

Consider upgrading your laptop's CPU, rolling back from Windows 7 to Windows XP, and changing Operating Systems from a Microsoft Windows OS to Linux. Also consider using an Apple MacBook.

Lastly, perform a security scan on your system - nothing wrecks a laptop's performance faster than a virus/worm/trojan horse/rootkit/malware/spyware/tracking cookies/supercookies, etc.

My Printer is offline and will not print

Hi!

If the printer says offline, the initial step that you need to check is the physical connection. If it is a USB printer, verify if the USB Cable is properly connected on both ends (PC to Printer and vise versa). If it is a network or wireless printer, make sure the printer is connected to your network. For wireless printers, you can easily identify if its just the wireless settings problem by connecting your printer hard wired to your wireless router. After you hardwired it, go to Printers and Faxes for XP, for Windows 7 and Vista click on Devices and Printers on the Control Panel. Right-click on your Printer icon then select "Use Printer Online" then try to print a test page.

Regards!

Can my linksys cause me to not get windows updates

No it shouldn't.
Test your system by doing this:
- Use your internet explorer to go to Microsoft and get updates. Select the "custom" mode.
If you can get updates this way, most likely your Windows update is set up to not upgrade automatically.

That's the problem of updating your computer's OS without verifying if your existing devices is compatible with win7 OS. For the meantime you need to hardwire your PC directly to the router if you wanted to get online. Just check their website from time to time if they have available drivers or I suggest buy another wireless adapter that's compatible with win7.

Unable to connect to the internet using a linksys wireless adapter. Connects to the router but can't find the internet.

Isolate the issue by directly connecting the PC to the router via ethernet cable (if possible).

If you were able to get online while hardwired connected to the router, then check the IP address of the wireless network connection, check the wireless security if the network key matches.

If you cannot get online while hardwired to the router, then directly connect the computer to the modem.

If you were able to get online while directly connected to the modem, then the problem is the internet settings on the router. Check the WAN configuration, such as DHCP or PPPoE.

If you cannot get online when directly connected to the modem, then you will need to contact your Internet Service Provider.

Vista and xp network

  1. All computers should have installed and enabled file and printer sharing, which you can see and change in the properties of the network connection.
  2. All computers should have enabled file and printer sharing as an exception for the Windows firewall.
  3. Sometimes you need to install the IPX protocol on the network connection.

I tried to reset my security password and now it won't work.

Make sure you have the physical connection connected properly.

-Modem should be connected to the Internet/WAN port of the router.
-Your laptop must be connected to port 1 of the router as well.
-Make sure you can go online hardwired to the router.

Then configure the wireless settings of the router by accessing the router setup page http://192.168.2.1, change the wireless settings.

How many computers do you have? Make sure you can go online first via hardwired. If the internet works fine hardwired, one thing that you can try is change the current channel of the router.

Open the setup page of the router.
1. Launch Internet Explorer, type http://192.168.1.1
2. A username and password box will show up. No username and password is admin
3. Go to WIRELESS tab. Change the channel to 11 and click on Save Settings. Restart your computer and try to connect again.

if u are trying to go online with hardwired connection, you can try chaning the ethernet port or cables. If you are trying to go online wireless, then try to login to the router and then reconfigure the wireless part of it
