I just experienced the same exact problem ! I just bought a brand new Weber E-310 a 3 burner grill.
After I seasoned it up with cooking oil,I turned all the burners to high, opened the tank and clicked electrnic button several times , the grill was on then I went inside, I came out about an half-hour later and it was saying around 275 degrees..
I looked into my manual and there is a gas limit control valve that shuts down gas flow, when it thinks there is too much gas flow.
Turn the propane gas knob to off
Turn the gas grill knobs to Off.
Click the igniter several times to clear out any gas.
Then unscrew the regulator from the tank,( I then blew into the tank hole and regulator),
Screw back on the regulator to the propane tank.
I then clicked igniter again couple of times.
Now open your propane tank.
Then turn on front burner while clicking igniter, this will lite 1st burner.
Then turn 2nd burner on low then to high.
And if you have 3rd burner or more, turn low then to high!
John I did this and my grill went to 600 plus in a few minutes!!
The problem was turning the gas grill knobs on first then opening the tank then lighting...
You have to open propane tank with knobs off, THEN AS SOON AS YOU TURN ON 1ST KNOB, YOU MUST IGNITE ...

Low flame, low temperature, yellow flame: This has become the biggest problem with many grills these days and it's almost always because of the regulator (the funny UFO shaped thing on the gas hose). Regulators seem to be stickier these days and when they stick you don't get enough gas to generate a good grilling temperature. To get your regulator unstuck you need to release the pressure on it. This could be caused by a couple of problems. First the regulator could be bad, or the tank is getting to hot. Which causes the relief valve to open and release pressure. This will happen when weather outside is hot.

I had this problem with a brand new grill so it wasn't grease in the hose. Due to the new propane regulators you have to turn the propane tank on for at least a minute before turning the grill to light. Let the tank sit in the light position for five seconds and then you light the grill. This will keep air from getting into the intake hose and will keep your gas flame roaring high.
I was only able to get the grill up to 250 degrees before I found this fix posted on the Weber site. It is listed as the number one solution in the FAQ section.

Well it coulbe caused by these newer type propane tanks with the anti tip safety device installed inside them. To rectify you simply remove the tank to clear the pressure in the line and open all valve son the grill. Then close all valves on the grill and reconnect the tank. Then open the valve only just enough to allow gas into the grill, just crack it open a hair. Retry.
