Question about Onkyo TX-SR605 Receiver

Open Question

Onkyo TX-SR605 Speakers pulsing

Onkyo 605..I was watching TV normally then suddenly, the subwoofer started to pulse a loud boom every second...when I switched to standard def, the back right surround speaker pulsed along with the sub. This started when everything was normal and I was already watching TV with no problems. I've had the system setup for 9+ months with no problems. What happened?

The unit itself is very hot to the touch so I thought it may have overheated but the problem persisted even after 48 hours of downtime. I see the same problems when I switch the HDMI over to my PS3 and even to the tuner. I re-ran the Audyssey setup with no change.

I disconnected the inputs and put the receiver into tuner mode. The static pulse was still there on the back right surround channel. The subwoofer operates normally. I only have problems with the sub when I'm in a Dolby surround mode and the red light on the receiver display is on.

How do I check the three options you are suggesting?

    Thanks for your help!

SOURCE: Onkyo TX-SR605 - Suddenly switches itself off and back on

HI, this is a reset procedure that this unit is trying to initiate. there has been a surge of some sort that the system has survived but, there is some lasting damage as well that has resulted in a slight programming error within the mother board.

This unit has a program that was installed at the manufacture. it runs the basic operations. there has been some major damage that is causing the internal program to stall and reset itself. the only way to reprogram is to send it back to the manufacture or, you can locate a local repair depot through Onkyo. the Onkyo techs are the only option when re programing is needed.

Hi We have the Onkyo TX-SR605 and have been trying to preview 3-d on our Direct TV and new Samsung 55" 3D capable TV. However, the TV problem solver says that the receiver may not support 3D...

I have a '608, and it supports 3D because it has HDMI 1.4. It looks like the 605 only has HDMI 1.3.

The original HDMI 1.3 protocol is not 3D capable, but revisions a/b/c support it. You should check to see what HDMI revision the 605 has.

Sound won't play through Onkyo TX-SR605 when using HDMI

The chances are that you have selected an incorrect sound setting or not switched it on, for the HDMI you are using. With Onkyo receivers each connection will have it own settings for video and sound. You just need to look in the manual as to how to select the settings.

Volume on my Onkyo Receiver

Yes it is. I have the 705. My room mate has the 605. Both AVR's will not have appreciable volume until 50 on the dial.
The dial in not linear. I don't know of anyone who has plotted the scaling of the volume control yet.
I have found much useful user info on avsforum.com. Owners post Q&A based on experiences.
Search the forum for "official onkyo TX-SR605" thread.
Some comparable info may also be found under the "official onkyo TX-SR705".

Zone 2 with Onkio TX-SR605

Hi

I FIXED IT!!! …LOL

All you have to do is to do a factory reset on everything, but I thing mostly on your 605. I think what had happened is after I set everything up for the first time, it worked great. As the days when on I started to play with all of the futures the 605 and the TV had to offer. I was turning them on and off to see what everything did. What I think I did was, I turned on something in the 605 that the TV did not know how to cope with. If I had to guess, I think it is the Lip-sink feature (Spelling?) in the 605.

Anyway disconnect everything, look in your manuals of the TV and the 605 to see how to do the factory reset on both. Then turn your TV on. After it does it’s start up for the first time (again), start connecting the 605.

It has been working great for me after I did this. Do not count on help from the people you bought it from or the people who made it. This stuff is so new they do not really know how to fix it.

Please feel free to call me if you need more help. 410-456-1290.

Sound control is via TV remote only

You didnot mention wehther you selected external speakers on you tv. If your TV allows this then do that, first.

Also the sound input to your TV must come from some source, (cable/ Sat). You could remove the audio inputs to your TV and only allow the audio to go to your Receiver.

RCA cables will allow this to be easy just remove the red and white audio to your TV. If you have sent them to your reciever then you must balance the cable box volume (reduce to the lowest level , then raise your recievers vol until satisfied if you are to loud when you switch to a CD then raise TV vol until they match, so your CD doesn't play to loud when switching modes)

If you are using an HDMI cable to your tv than there has to be a setup for turning off the internal speakers on your TV.

Could well be the quality of your cables. if you have high end cables the consult a service agent. if you have the cables that came with the products, go and get some better ones.
