On the TI-36X there is no rooftop key, there is a yx key. This key is two keys below the on button. To use it, put the number in, press the yx key, put the exponent in, press the equal button.

Depending on your version of the TI-30, you will either find a button with a y to the exponent of x or a button that is the carot (^) sign. you would type (1.0075)^(-240), where ^ is the appropriate button (y^x or just ^).

How do you put in the number in scientific notation on the TI 34 II calculator?

Type in the mantissa, then the EE key (for Enter Exponent) above the 7 key, then the exponent. If it's a negative exponent, press the (-) key to the right of the decimal point before entering the exponent.

Please explain which buttons to push on TI-36x solar calculator to find the pKa of benzoic acid. the Ka for benzoic acid is 6.5 X 10 to the -5th ? (Sorry I don't know how to type the exponents for you)

You need the [EE] key to enter powers of 10 exponents.
You need the change sign key [+/-] key.
You need the [LOG] key.

pKa: 6.5 [EE] [+/-] 5 [LOG] [+/-]
There are two change sign: The first (either before or after the exponent 5), the last is entered after you press the log key , so as to negate (make negative if result is positive, and make positive is result is negative) the value.
The result should be 4.1870866 or 4.19

I need to know how to enter anything above cube root into my TI-83.

  1. Use the universal power key marked with [^].
  2. To avoid problems if the exponent is an expression, enclose it in parentheses.
  3. To enter any power type number^(exponent)
  4. If exponent is negative use the (-) change sign key next to the dot, below the 3 key.
  5. To calculate the roots (cubic, fourth, fifth, etc.) roots use the fact that a root of n-th order can be represented as ^(1/n)
  6. Ex: cube root of 27: 27^(1/3); square root of 64 : 64^(1/2) or 64^(0.5)

Exponent Sign

To write 50 exponent in math mode, type your number then hit the key that has (x with the solid white exponent key). It's between the (x squared key) and the (log key) then you can enter the number 50 for your exponent. You can also hit the (x squared key) delete the 2 exponent and type in the exponent you want.

You can download the guidebook for this calculator from TI here.

From page 16:
To enter a number in scientific notation:
1) Enter up to 10 digits for the base (mantissa). If negative, press the +/- key. (The key has two curvy arrows between the + and - but I can't do that on my keyboard.)
2) Press the EE key.
3) Enter a 1 or 2-digit exponent. If negative, press +/- either before or after entering exponent.

They give the example 1.2345 +/- EE +/- 65 which would display -1.2345 -65.
