The wire feed on my welder will not work.

I have an sp 200 idea arc Lincoln mig welder. The wire feed will not work. When in weld mode, no electricity is reaching the 24 volt electric motor on the feeder. Also no electricity is coming out of the negative or positive leads. It has 220 volts going into the transformers when in weld mode. Can anyone help me out on this. thank you, Dale.

Maybe you can get lucky like I did . Some times the acr volt selector switch gets corrosion in it and wont let the circuit board know to send power to the wire feed motor. You can cycle this arc volt. switch in my case it is the a,b,c,d,e, switch back and fourth a few times and this will brake the corrosion and your wire might feed again as mine did . This corrosion build up happens from not using and or sollecting the switch much usually on a welder at hm that gets very little use. it is common good luck .

simbaom. Thanks for the advice. I have a Linclon SP130T and the feed motor quit working. I was looking at buying a new one due to its age. After reading your reccomendation. I cycled the arc volt switch and it went back to working. This is the first problem i have had with it in almost 20 years i have had it. It is a great unit

Dale,
Probably the trigger/ open the lead and try to short the connections for the trigger by bypassing the trigger acuator. This is the mechanism that activates the wire feed motor and applies the welding voltage to the wire. If this works, get a new torch handle.

Porblem with lincoln mig welder 135

Use a voltage tester to make certain you have current at the steel roller assembly that the wire feeds through. Check the diameter of the wire also, to assure contact at the feed rollers.

I have a lincoln sp-175plus, when trying to weld it the arc just melts the wire and it balls up at the end. I also put a new contact tip in. As well sometimes the wire feed just stops. I then press...

Your drive tension is too light. There are rollers that the wire feeds through and they need to be tightened. They should push the wire through the gun but slip if you put the tip against a solid object and pull the trigger. If they do not slip, they will jam your gun. Give the tensioner another turn.

Weld arc not stable. Wire feeds, good ground,

Arc blow could be the cause! Put your ground on the work piece and weld away from it. If you weld toward a ground clamp the magnetic forces will blow your arc around sometime. When taking a cert this simple mistake can make or break ya on your cap or reinforcement beads.

Mig Question

MIG stands for Metal Inert Gas welding, many times called Wire-feed.. Also referred as GMAW (Gas Metal Arc Welding). The "Metal" refers to the wire which is what is used to start the arc. It is shielded by inert gas and the feeding wire also acts as the filler rod. A semi-automatic process, it is fairly easy to learn and use.
