Make sure that you have removed any add on cards that snap into the expansion slots on the motherboard. Some computers use these plastic standoffs that are used for alignment purposes and they protrude through the motherboard. You need to use some small needle nose pliers and pinch the plastic top piece together and then the board will be able to slip up and over them.

The board is probably being held by "keeper pins" - you'll need a small pair of needle-nose pliers to squeeze the pin retainer at each location and remove the board....just go slow and be careful...you can do it!

Dell has a really good support site. You log on, enter your service tag number (on the top of side of your PC) and they will tell you exactly how much ram you support, the type of ram needed and how many slots it has. If it was a matching pair then it should be working, unseat it and reseat it, it may not be in all the way. If still don't show then put it back in the old computer and see if it reads it. If not then the RAM stick got damaged during the move. But no doubt you should be able to handle more that 1GB of RAM. Good Luck, let me know if you have any questions.

This link to Dell's support site should help you figure out how to open the case whether it is a tower or desktop. This article comes with images and will show you everything from the assembly/disassembly of the cover, front panel, drive cage, motherboard, CPU, etc.

Hope it comes in handy and don't forget to bookmark the page!

Comp doesn't power anything

It's likely to be these four main culprits:

Video Card / GPU

Memory

Motherboard

CPU

Start by opening up the case (with the power removed of course) and try removing and reseating your video card and memory sticks.

Then restart the computer.

If nothing changes, try removing the bios battery with the computer unplugged for about five minutes then put it back.

If those don't work then it's probably a motherboard problem, but if you get any beeps messages or anything else changes, let me know and I'll throw some ideas your way.

Installing memory

You can do this if both of your Desktops are using the same memory card or the memory card you need to replace from one to another desktop is supported by both the Desktop boards.
If you have not sure you can provide me the Model No for both the Desktops for more precise solution.

Is the video card built into the motherboard? If not you can try replacing just the video card to see if that works. Otherwise I am afraid you may have to replace the motherboard.
