SOURCE: drive wheels not ternning

Tillers have a handle that you "squeeze to go". The handle activates a clutch, usually through a flexible cable. Does that handle offer resistance about halfway up as you squeeze it?

If not, that cable may have stretched a bit. Try adjusting the clutch by turning the nuts on the threaded sleeve where the cable comes out near the handle, until you get resistance when you squeeze the handle. The cable could also be broken, in which case adjusting won't help, but replacing the cable isn't expensive.

There's something else to check. Tillers have a pin to lock the wheels to the axle. It's right at the wheel hub. The pin can be pulled out to make it easy to move the tiller without running the motor. If you can push the tiller around easily with the motor off, then you may just have a missing wheel pin.

If it's not these simple things, it could be something worse like a problem in the transmission. If reverse works, but not forward, then it's probably the transmission, which is bad news. I hope it's one of the simple problems above.

Please rate if this was helpful, thanks and good luck!.

SOURCE: My Poulan Pro Tiller starts

It may be the drive belt is slipping, depending on the model number of course. What is the model number?

How do I fix my snowblower when the wheels won,t move ahead or back

Sounds like gear on axle shaft broke shear bolt or key. Take bottom plate off base of snowblower. It is ok to tip snowblown up on front end so wheels are in air. After plate is off turn wheels and see if drive gear is moving with axle. If not key way or bolt has broken off, replace and will be back in motion.

Snowblower wheels will not move freely when drive is disengaged & and wheels will not turn when drive control engaged.

Check the drive shaft bushings if they are worn the gears are probably binding and this creates the problem you are having.

Lawnmower wheels jamming/sticking rear wheel drive

Unless you want to replace these gears You can make this mower into a push mower by taking the wheels off and disconnecting the gear drives. One time I took wheels off the front and put on the rear and rear off the back and put on front. In order for this to work all four wheels have to be the same size.

I have 2 poulan pro 900 series tillers and they are fairly new anyway when I engage tines they work fine until they hit dirt. then they stop and have a loud clicking noise. I'm sure that they are more than...

If your tiller is one that has power to the wheels and the tines at the same time ... are the wheels going? If it is one with no power to the wheels, are the belts engaging?

1980 pony rear tine tiller: when I put it into gear it just sits there and will suddenly lurch ahead uncontrollably.

That will happen when the tines are engaged while the wheels are in Neutral as the tines simply drive the whole machine forward without the drag of the wheels being in gear. If the wheel transmission is engaged and this is still happening, then you have need for repair.

Craftsman model 917377411 front propelled drive not engaging

On your model I beleive these wheels are driven with small gears inside the inside diameter of the wheels. If the shaft is turning, then you probably have a gear problem. Remove a wheel and inspect both the wheel, and the small gear. They are prone to wear.I'd suggest replacing all four parts if worn.

Tillers rotate put in gear wont move was moving just stopped is their a belt or chain in gear box or transmisson

Hi pat,

Yes, there are two chains in the tranny. If the wheels spin freely but don't engage, the smaller chain is broken.

If the wheels don't move, in gear or not, the smaller chain is broken and wrapped around the gears.

It's a bit of a chore to get to....

MTD series 410 rear tine tiller drive wheels slip

I have the same issue with one I am working on. It appears the keys in the drive shaft are not rotating far enough out on the drive gear side to fully engage in the gear. I have studied and studied this and so far I have been unable to determine why. If I find out I will let you know. I am also trying to figure out what is supposed to pull these keys out of the till engagement gear.
