Question about IBM Thinkpad T40 Thinkpad T41 Thinkpad T42 Motherboard - 27R1978

T41 appears to be dead. I see the power light but

T41 appears to be dead when I turn on my laptop. I see the power LED light but nothing else. I thought the HD crashed so I took the HD and placed in a good T41 laptop and that worked fine. Decided to update and drivers and run a virus check before putting HD back in my laptop. As I expected my HD in my laptop still doesn't work. What's wrong?

If you have another t41 then you should try swapping the battery pack and the power pack. Some laptops are picky if the battery is totally stone dead and won't run. Did you have any heating problems before this happened? Or did it just blink out and not restart? Unfortunately if the battery and power pack don't do anything then you have a motherboard or cpu problem.

Good day sir, there are several resons why a laptop wont power up, or wont display a thing.

  1. Memory is bad so make sure to check for memory module.
  2. The battery is bad, check you battery with other similar laptop.
  3. The power supply/charger is bad.
  4. There seem to be a shorted circuit board on your laptop ground chassis. For you to test it, you should dissassemble the laptop and one by one reassemble it again.
  5. Mainboard, sad to say if everything else fails, the mainboard is the last culprit. better visit your local service center.
hope this helps, please update me if you may have any progress report on your laptop, thanks

Samsung n150 wont turn on just led light on at nothing appear on screen

If your laptop appears to boot up and the hard disk LED flashes, then the problem is probably a back light fault. This can be a faulty inverter or a faulty CCFL lamp. Please click on this link and follow my instructions to identify the fault and possible fix :- http://www.fixya.com/support/r3598095-faulty_laptop_lcd_screen

You may have a DC connector problem:

Symptoms of a broken power jack
1. If you wiggle the power cord or the AC Adapter connector on the back of the laptop, the power LED and battery charge LED start to flicker.
2. Battery will not charge in the laptop.
3. Laptop runs fine off a charged battery.
4. With the AC Adapter connected the laptop appears to be dead.
No power LED or battery charge LED activity.
5. Laptop randomly powers off without any warning.

If your laptop is out of warranty, then you can fix the problem by re-soldering DC-IN jack on the system board. If it

When the invertors fail, it is common to be completely dead not showing a little light.
Maybe they have both failed but I would check the power save settings first.
Hope that helps.

Worked fine yesterday - will not turn on today - kitchen

When you say the machine is dead do you mean you are getting no LED lights at all or do you mean it is not booting up? No power and no post are two different things. With no power you get absolutely nothing at all. With no post you may have some LED lights but nothing comes up on the screen. You said power and power supply tested ok. How are you testing it? I need more info please.
