Did you put it the right way around? Almost impossible to put it in the wrong way, but I don't know how strong your thumb is.
Then check is all connection points are clean and shiny, and straight. Not one should be bent or out of line. Also check in the camera. Look if perhaps some dust or paper is in the memory card holder. Check is the memory card holder / battery door locks correct.

I suppose you are using the card via inserting it in the CAP ( Holder) that came with the card to be able to make it used with card reader.
So, the Micro SD card gets locked only through it's CAP (Holder)
Steps to Unlock :
Insert the card into the CAP (Holder). Please check the Upper Left side of the CAP (Holder). There must be One switch which will slide Up and Down. Push that switch to Upper side. (Pushing to downward will lock while the reverse will Unlock the Card). Now Insert it to Card Reader to use it.
i have some tips on how to install sim card on your cellphone:
Install SIM card 1. Make sure that the cover of the connector panel is closed. 2. Slide the phone open. 3. Open the SIM card compartment (1) on the back of the slide 4. Slide the metal SIM card holder towards the compartment lid to release it (2). 5. Open the SIM card holder. 6. Insert the SIM card in the holder as shown (cut corner at the upper right).
7. Close the SIM card holder, and press it down slightly. 8. To lock the SIM card holder, slide it away from the compartment lid (1). 9. Close the SIM card compartment (2).
It may be a case of wrong cutting of the micro sim. Since the iPad uses a microsim, you haveto make sure that the sim card is cut perfectly. Do not use a pair of scissors, you have to cut it specifically using a micro sim cutter. Or you can check if the placement of the sim card is correct. Sometimes, the card seems to get loose thus making it unreadable by the iPad.
You card holder socket is faulty. This is the problem that is happening in most of the Nokia N79.
You should replace the card holder by giving it to Nokia Service center, But this is going to be little be cost ahevy as the holder is placed on the Board, you have to replace some additional components with the Card holder, please check it with the Nokia Center.

Remove the sheel backside of your phone
remove the battery
now you see your sim-card
you place the sd-card just at the right side of the sim-card
lift the mediacard holder
insert the sd-card into the slot in the mediacard holder so that the metal connectors on the card will align with the metal connectors on your phone when the media card holder door is closed
close th media card holder door and slide the media card door away from its hinges to lock it
put back the battery and shell and you done!
