Question about Frigidaire HV2736B Kitchen Hood

1 Answer

Unit will sometimes not turn on

Intermittently, the unit will not turn on. Can push the switch and nothing. Then I'll push the switch a few times and I can hear something electrically happening, but still the hood will not rise nor will the blower fan turn on. Then I can push it a few more times, finally, the blower will slowly spool up and the hood will finally rise.

Do I have a motor slowly going out? What other issues could be on the horizon? The unit is only 2 years old.

Re: Unit will sometimes not turn on

NASCAR...I'm thinking more like the switch. If you can, with the power off gain access to the switch wiring. find the lead that goes to the power and the motor. Connect them directly (you might need a paper clip). Tape it all up securely and fire up the power. If it will know about the switch...if not, you might look at the motor. By the way...check that motor should turn easily when you give it a spin. Motors of the type used in fans generally don't degrade in performance unless they get gummed up with kitchen grease. Clean the grease off with WD 40.

Troubleshoot Bosch DHD8005UC downdraft system which has ceased to raise & lower automatically?

While I don't have a schematic, there is not much to the system. In my case, I removed the entire unit (stationary and mobile parts) and cleaned all the grease out. Be prepared to do this outside on a picnic table with a paint scraper and grease bucket.

Our unit would raise ok, then go right back down. There is a cam that raises the unit up and down. That same cam impacts a couple of micro switches. The push button switch over comes the raise limit switch when it's time to go back down. The limit switches (one up one down) have small metal tabs that get disturbed by grease and increased weight of the grease. After cleaning, just bend the upper limit tab just a little so it is tighter. On my mine, the unit would lift, then coast over the top of the cam profile and go back down. By bending the metal tab connected to the raise limit switch so the switch was more fully engaged sooner (earlier) to the top of stroke, the unit will stop where it should. Pressing the button again by passes the raise limit switch so the cam continues and the unit goes back down. I wish I had taken pictures when I did this. It really is very simple.

Bosch DHD965AUC will not turn on, go down

The multi button switch may be fouled with cooking grease. If the switch has not failed, you may be able to clean the buttons. Unplug the unit before starting. Prop the vent up (you should be able to pull it up by hand) and unscrew the end caps, pull the top cap off and turn over. There are three small nuts on the underside of the switch, I loosen these with a jewlers needle nose pliers and remove by hand. Once you have the switch semi free (the cable has some play in it) pull off and wash the black caps in hot soapy water. As long as you did unplug the unit, you can pour rubbing alcohol over the white stems and push up and down to move grease out. We sometimes use a cleaning solution. Let dry until you are absolutely sure that all moisture has evaporated. Re assemble, plug in and try the switch.

This has worked for us for the past 5 years which beats the almost $300 price for the new part (part, tax and shipping).

I have a Broan Elite 2736 downdraft range fan that is 3 years old. Upon using it , it started to go up and then down without stopping until I unplugged it. I replugged it in and it continues to go up and...

Broan model 2736A won't stay up

In my case, I pushed the button, the housing goes fully up, then right back down. I removed and disassembled the unit for cleaning. After Assembly I located two microswitches that cause the extension moror to stop at the top and at the bottom of the swing. In my case, the inertia of the motor caused the unit to "Coast" thru the top of the stroke and continue back down. I bent the outer 1/3 of the metal tabs that depress the microswitches so that the unit stopped rising a wisker sooner and no longer goes back down without pushing the button. The same coasting theroy may apply at the bottom of the stroke. The motor that runs the up and down motion is controlled by three switches, the two limit switces plus the momentary push button switch. If you don;t need to completely remove your unit for cleaning, the microswitchs can be located by removing the fan housing and looking up from inside the cabinet (under the stove) on the right side. IN my case, there was 10 years of goop to be removed.

Cavaliere 218 series range hood lights don't work.

It's the connectors that lead from the transformer to the lights.
I had the same problem with the Vetron series and hard wiring them with new clips fixed the problem.

Up & down push button not working

Repaired the same problem several months ago. The up/down control has a very small switch located under the button. The switch is part of the selector switch assembly that costs upwards of $100. However, the switch itself is available from Digi Key electronics part # P12321-SCT-ND at about $1.00 each, plus shipping. If you can handle the unit disassembly, which is extensive in this repair, and can solder very small switches, this is an inexpensive fix. I suggest you buy some spares. I'm looking for a seal replacement for this unit right now. Good luck.

F90 st.steel hood fan problem

kerry, does it make any difference if you hold that button or not? If so, the switch set could be bad. Any odd noise from the motor? The motor might be bad. Power off. Then, remove the filter and try to turn the motor by hand. If it turns hard, it's the motor. Easy, then replace the switch. Check the electrical connections to the unit. There should be a box somewhere inside the housing. It is possible that wires have come loose. Again, do this part with the power off.

Thermador downdraft does not stop going up and going down automatically

I had a similar issue with the Thermador CVS30R hood continually going up and down, and also issues with the fan starting.
The issue was found to be a loose control arm off the motor. The arm itself moved outward on the motor shaft which resulted in it missing the switches that control the hood up/down and fan start.
This was a somewhat simple fix. Make sure the hood is in the down position. Unplug the unit from power(important!). Unscrew the screw that connects the drive arm to the drive link. Unscrew the motor/control cover, then unscrew the 4 screws holding the complete motor/control unit on (2 Phillips-head screw on each end of the assembly). Pull the complete motor/control assembly out, be careful of wiring. Once out, push the drive arm on firmly onto the motor assembly and tighten the screw. When doing so make sure the 2 micro switch arms are not caught and are free to switch.
When placing the unit back in, ensure all wiring is clear from being caught and ground is reconnected. Put it all back together and done!
I found this link to be useful for a parts/configuration diagram:
