Question about Fender Hot Rod Deluxe Guitar Combo Amplifier

I have a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe. It has very few

I have a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe. It has very few hours of service. However, often, when I turn it on and switch from standby to power - I get a blast of feedback. I can get it to stop, usually be switching back and forth a few times, or on and off a few times. The sound is still great, lots of voloume, tone, etc. What's the deal?

I'm having the most frustrating issues with my Fender Hot Rod DeVille 410: it produces the most gorgeous tone (clean) until it's been on for about an hour. The issue presents itself consistently regardless of instrument: Ibanez AS73, Ibanez AFJ191 or Ibanez AM93.

First try turning the volume control down before turning switch to operate.

IF this seems to fix it, IF the unit has a tank reverb, the vibration of the reverb springs MAY be causing the problem. The solution then is to reduce the volume before applying power WHICH is a good idea anyway... from an electrical engineer.

It sounds as if you may have to replace the STANDBY-POWER toggle switch.

Most likely clipping. This happens when the source DBs are too high for the amp....feeding in too hot.

Crate three button foot swich how do you connect it to the amp

The Fender Hot Rod Deluxe shows a 2-button footswitch as standard but I'm confused. This link shows it as connected to the amp via a mono cable ... FENDER Hot Rod Deluxe DeVille Footswitch which is impossible using two switches. Normally it's a stereo (tip, ring, sleeve) with tip to sleeve being one connection, and ring to sleeve the other. Good luck with this one.

Fender Hot Rod Deluxe. Works great except when I turn the amp off it crackles pretty loud. It takes about 5-10 seconds for the crackle is heard. If I turn the standby switch first, then wait a minute or...

As voltages drop, electronics gets unstable as it goes down and becomes noisy... this may be the nature of this beast. Opening the standby might be the best way to avoid the problem.. Here is your schematic for service:

Scroll down to "get manual" and click to download. IGNORE other download links.
Opening the standby switch turns off power to the main amp so noise generated in the preamp will not be amplified.

Fender hot rod deluxe static

This often due to a cracked circuit board or bad solder joint. Sometimes input connectors are bad but those are easily discovered by wiggling the plug.

When I turn on my fender hot rod deluxe 40W, even before plugging in my guitar, it crakles and makes noises constantly. I've had it for over 5 years and I play it maybe 1 hour a week. Is it a tubes issue?...

This is likely either a tube issue OR one with capacitors.

You need to characterize the loudness of the noises versus the settings of the controls as part of troubleshooting...

You can try tapping each tube with a pencil to see if one in failure will reveal itself.

How do i connect the boss gt 10 to a fender blues deluxe amp and bypass the amps preamp

You can plug the output of the gt10 into the "power amp in" jack of the Fender. This bypasses the preamps in the Fender but uses a buffer amps in the Fender to drive the power amp. Please note that the reverb is STILL in the circuit when you do this. You can turn the reverb to zero if you wish to disable it.

Fender Hot Rod Deluxe making popping noise

Ah yes, the Fender Hot Rod Deluxe. I have seen more of these in my shop than any other amplifier!! I have even sent recomendations for design changes to Fender about this amplifier.
Sadly, your amp tech may be correct: while the amp is within working specs, you can still have an issue with a bad socket. The cheapest thing to try is to replace the preamp tube(s) you think may be causing the problem. If the problem persists, it may need to be serviced on this issue (by a different 'certified Fender tech'). In defense of the last tech you had work on this amp, these amplifiers have a brittle design and do not gig or travel well (there are a minority of these amps made that do perform). Fender tried to do too much for the price on this model: best advice is to fix it, sell it and get your tone with a more stable model made by Fender (like the new vintage re-issues). Fender, like Marshall, has for years been having problems when they get too far from thier 'working reciepe' of what made them great companies.
You likely have a socket that needs re-tensioned, or a preamp tube not behaving. If it is not these, then a tech had to dive in the house of cards that is this circuit. Sorry for the bad news on this, but it is the truth. I only take on Hot Rods that 'appear' to be fixable. I am a development engineer, build amps from scratch and fix them for the local music shops, and my success rate is a dismal 60%-ish percent on these...
Thanks,-mike
