Question about Carrier 38CKC036 Air Conditioner

2 Answers

The fan will only go on if I spray water from my hose to get it started. I called an ac repair place but they told me it would be $85.00 just to come tell me what the problem was and the guy on the phone told me it was either the capacitor or the motor. I am sure if they come out it will take all of 5 minutes to tell me what is wrong with it. How much is a capacitor and a motor for model 38ckc036?

Last night I returned home to a very hot house and I nearly started crying. I live in Houston where the heat index is hitting triple digits everyday. To make matters worse my house faces east/west, so my bedroom gets a lot of direct sunlight in the evenings. Thanks to you I was able to manually start my fan with the water sprayer. It is at least a temporary solution so I don't spontaneously combust before I can get a service person out to the house. I can already feel the cool air. However, this website has inspired this single female to get up and go buy a capacitor and try changing it myself!

If you can get the particulars on the parts, (mfg, part number, etc.), you can call an appliance parts supply house and get an exact quote. It sounds more like the capacitor than the motor to me. If the motor will get up to full speed with your (very clever, by the way) water trick, I'd bet it's the capacitor.

How do you stop a kohler toilet from spraying water inside of tank lid

There should be a small hose that is spraying the water. That hose should be put inside the overflow tube and heald in place with a clip or put into a small hole on top of the tube. Only put the tube in just enough to hold it in place. If it is spraying from anywhere else you need to replace or repair the ballcock.

2003 trailblazer problems

You need to check both ends of both battery cables, and the ground wire or strap that goes from the engine block to the battery or chassis.
This problem happens when the AC fan motor or AC compressor clutch draws current, but some connection is failing. With the ignition on but the engine not running, turn on the headlights and watch them. Next turn on just the fan, then the AC. The headlights should dim just a little, but not a lot. If it does this with both the fan only and then the AC on, then that proves that its a bad connection.
A common place is where the battery cable is clamped onto the connector. Another place is the actual battery terminal connector. Get one of those "battery terminal cleaner" things with wire brushes on it, and remove all the oxide down to the shiny metal. Then spray the connection with WD-40 or a Silicone spray before tightening it up.

AC doesn't blow cold air.

I'm sorry you have had such bad experiences with the shops.
I would have stopped at the second one and forced them to fix it at their cost.
I doubt you will be able to find the problem yourself, but I understand your hesitation to go back to another mechanic.
I will be happy to try to walk you thru the diagnostic process but it may take a few days.
First, do you know if the system is full of freon ?
If it is full, do you know if the compressor is running when the ac is switched on ?
The first shop should have discovered the blown fuse once they charged the system unless it took a day or two for the fuse to blow. The second shop that put the compressor on should have found the faulty fan, and the leaking hose if it is in fact leaking.
So should have the third shop.
If the compressor was faulty, and the system had been empty for a time, the hose could have started leaking once the system was being used. The pressure on the high side is over 200psi when the compressor is running.
Let me know where you want to start with the diagnosis after you answer my questions.

Can the outside area of a window ac be hosed out while it is in the window?

Hello, it is better to remove the unit from the window and place it out side, this way when you spray the water and you can be sure it does damage any components. When spraying the water dont use too much pressure.

Eng revers up when start up and in gear its coast at 18km and not much heat and fan not blowi too good.

It sounds like a vacuum leak. Take a spray bottle and place water in it and while the engine is running spray the water gentle around the hoses and manifold intake and see if the engine speed drops. If it does inspect that area for further repairs.

Leaking water

Is this a car? a home window unit?If it is a home window unit, take the air conditioner out of the window/wall,and take it out side and wash the unit out with water hose.Be careful not to bend the fins over on the coils, this will restrict air flow.If the coils are nasty, use a product called purple power. You can purchase this at auto parts.Use this purple power full strength in a spray bottle and spray all over the coils, and let it set for about 10 minutes, and rinse.Repeat as necessary .Fan the water hose nozzle out so not to flatten the fins on the coils. When you put ac unit back in wall/window,make sure the ac unit has a tilt on it leaning outward, and down,to assure the water drains outward on the ground. If the ac unit your talking about is in a car,you will have to get under the car, with a flash light and look up under the firewall. There will be a tube,or a plastic spout coming out of the ac box,for drainage of condensation.Take a skinney wire, and run it in ,and out of the tube or spout until the water starts pouring out like a waterfall. If it does not unclog, use air pressure.I hope this helps, let me know if it does.

When I turn on the AC a moggy smell blows out of the vents. However, if I turn the AC off but leave the fan blowing air through the vents the smell go away a little. What could be causing this problem?...

mould in evaporator case?
some vehicles have a pollen filter(air conditioning air intake filter)not sure if your vehicle has but check if it has, may need replacing.
check plenum chamber(area under front windscreen)for leaves and debris.
then can try and spray mould killing pressure can(glen 20)air freshner in through intake air places under front windscreen with windows down air cond on full fan speed on fresh air while engine running or not depending on how long and how bad smell is.
may also pay to check for blocked air cond. drain tube, is it dripping water when running?
service centres or hire places have also got fragrance and mould killing machines you can use inside vehicle under similar conditions as above(ozoneator)

  1. Remove coolant
  2. loosen off alternator belt tension
  3. loosen off power steering pump tension if applicable
  4. Same with AC if needed
  5. remove fan hub bolts
  6. remove belts shared by water pump pulley
  7. remove hoses from water pump
  8. remove heater core hose from water pump
  9. remove alternator support bracket bolt thru water pump housing
  10. remove power steering bracket support bolt if applicable
  11. remove AC bracket support bolts if applicable.
  12. Now remove water pump housing to block bolts(remember sequence)
  13. using a pry bar or large screw driver, gently pry the water pump until it releases from the block
  14. clean all old gasket material from connecting surfaces
  15. Place new gasket in place with a little bit of spray tack
  16. then re-install water pump and install bolts as they came out(some are longer than others)
  17. Re-assemble all parts in reverse order of removal
  18. fill system with new coolant
  19. start vehicle and test for leaks before driving anywhere(make sure you have a drop pan under the vehicle
  20. Let the vehicle come up to operating temperature,,do final check for leaks with Radiator cap on
  21. If you have access to a cooling system pressure pump and tester, it would be easier to use this tool to test system.
  22. Road test vehicle, add fluid if necessary, enjoy driving.!!

If water is spraying from the tool hose, then check the heater for a blockage. If the heater port is blocked, then the water can't flow back down to the spray nozzles, which could also be clogged. Most likely a clogged heater, it is in the handle.

Spray on the rinse cycle goes all over

THIS WILL BE SIMPLE =)
TIP THE MACHINE BACK SO YOU CAN LAY UNDER IT
TOWARDS THE BACK ON THE RIGHT THERE IS A DIVERTER VALVE YOU DONT EVEN NEED ANY TOOLS AS THE CLAMPS ARE FINGER CLAMS
THE DIVERTER WILL BE COVERD IN PLASTIC AND HAVE TWO WIRES GOING INTO IT (I BELIEVE ITS RED AS WELL)
MORE THAN LIKELY SOMETHING IS JAMBED IN THERE CAUSING IT TO BE PARTIALLY OPEN DURING THE SPIN CYCLE AND WATER IS COMING OUT ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE TUB(SPRAYING IN THE SHAPE OF A FAN) WHEN IT HITS THE TUB(WHICH WILL BE SPINNING VERY FAST) IT GETS THROWN ALL OVER THE CABINET
HOPE I MADE IT AS EASY AS IT SHOULD BE TO FIX
GOOD LUCK
