Try changing to your S video wire input. If you hear a cracking sound it could be you've blown your speakers. It depends on your application but I run all my DVD equipment through my stereo system, just run the same video wire to your stereo and select that input on the stereo .And yes they do have remote controls, try ebay where you can get another vp800 w/remote under 100.

blow out any dust with canned air. chances are there is an object blocking the image. or there is a crack or burn spot on the 2nd fly-eye lens (diffuser). the first one is right next to the lamp (if you remove the lamp, you'll see it). the second is right on the other side of it.

You don't probably, your laptop screen is not exactly becoming magnified, the resolution is being lowered to match the maximum resolution of your projector which is only 800x600. They are setup as "cloned" together. You could try setting up an "extended desktop" rather than having the projector "cloned" with your laptop screen, that way you can change the resolution (within their allowed limits) of both displays independently. To do this, Right click on desktop and select video setting or the control panel of whatever video card you have. If you can set up an extended desktop, it is here that you'll be able to do it.
Remove the cover and check whether the air filters blocked with dust.
Whenair filters are blocked, air doesn't
flow freely through the projector. This result in overheating, leading to
automatic shutdown.
