Question about Kenmore 54613 / 54616 Side by Side Refrigerator

Water freezing in the bottom of the freezer

I have a Kenmore 106.54616300 and the water freezes at the bottom of the freezer. I've chipped it away, and also cleared the drain so that water can flow, but the problem just reappears.

I assume the water buildup is from the defrost cycle, but I'm not clear on how this drain is supposed to stay clear. Is there supposed to be a heated wire that goes in the drain, or is this a practical home made solution?

I also have 2 other issues that I don't know if they are related -
1) the water from the water dispenser has a funny taste to it - almost moldy.
2) The freezer can be set to -5 to 5 degrees F. No matter what temp we set it to, the freezer is colder than we'd like, somewhere closer to -10 degrees.

I've tested the temp in the freezer again, and it appears to be about -10 degrees F. I think the problem might be with the freezer being too cold. Is there a part that controls this that might be easily replaced?

Side by side fridge? Use a turkey baster and HOT water to make sure drain is clear. Jetting hot water may unclog drain. Drain has a loop in it under fridge. check to see if water flows through drain. You may need to install a drain heater which connects to defrost heater circuit. If so, suggest that you have a tech correctly diagnose problem. Algea can build up in rubber drain under fridge, so a LITTLE bleach poured into drain will help kill it. Use a tablespoon of bleach.

Why has my kenmore elite trio refrigerator started to intermittently started to chime

Hi! I am having this exact problem also. The best answer I have been able to discover is that it is related to the freezing up of the internal water tube that drains the fridge compartment into the freezer section. In addition, a pool of water freezes on the interior floor of my freezer and has to be manually chipped up and removed. I did try to unload the freezer and defrost it thoroughly, but it still happens and has to be chipped each week. I am still seeking a solution, but at least I can make the chiming stop by locking the temperature via the button on the front panel. Best wishes. If you discover a better or final soln, please post. I will do so as well.. Regards.

Same as post in Dec 09, I have water freezing at the bottom of my frostfree upright freezer (whirlpool).

Could be the drain is blocked, Otherwise the water would drain away and evaporate from the compressor unit.

Water dripping and freezing in bottom of freezer

you might have a compressor that are pumping insufficient, a capilary tube that is partially blocked, a gas leak somewhere that can also cause the problem because of shortage of refrigerant. and that is why you will have a spot that is not igetting cold enough that is causing water condensating on that spot and drippng down where your condensor is colder.

It sounds like the freezer drain is plugged up. When the frig goes into the defrost stage it melts the frost biuldup on the evaporator and the melted frost goes down a drain that is behind the evaopator cover. When this dran is plugged the water has no place to go and over several defrost cyles will actually run into the bottom of the freezer section. When the defrost cycle is over and the frig starts cooling again, the water freezes in the bottom of the freezer.
