SD card door is broken on my Nikon D40

I bought a new door, but it appears as though the back needs to come completely off. I don't want to take the back off because I don't want to screw anything else up. If I knew it came off and went back on really easily I could replace this myself. Does anyone know how complicated it is to replace this door?

I'm sorry it's been around 2 years since you posted this but I had the same problem, ordered the piece from Nikon last year and yes, the only way is to take all the back "skin" from the back, you have to be very careful but there is no other way. The broken door is attached by screws and some of them are on top and easy to take off but the main one is under so you have to do that. I did it with my husband's help, we tried not to touch anything and then put everything back on but yes, you definitely have to be very very careful and no, there is no other way to do it. Perhaps it is too late for you guys, but my answer my help someone else that googles such a thing in the future. good luck!

Replacing the SD card slot door cover Nikon D60? The SD card slot cover/ door is broken. Can I replace it myself? Where can I buy the part? Could someone give me step by step instructions on how to replace...

Hi Sasha - New Nikon repair parts are not available in the marketplace. You'll find repair parts that are offered for sale are used. The used products may be very good - and in some cases practically new - but you'll never know for sure. A battery door and other non-electronic parts should be pretty easy to determine if they have been abused or damaged upon arrival. Electronic parts are going to be a crapshoot.

I was quoted $270 to replace a sensor in my old D70 last year. I found one on eBay for $55. I have no idea how many times the sensor was used, but fortunately it seems to work fine. The work to replace it was tedious and required a very steady hand and some small specialty tools. Replacing the battery door will probably be nowhere near as involved - but I don't know your level of ability, either. You should ask anyone that is selling this part for written instructions or a link to instructions or video that details the replacement process. Read or watch the directions and determine if it is in your skill set. If not, you'll never go wrong sending the camera to Nikon for repair. It will only cost you a bit more - but it will be done right and your camera will not incur additional damage during dis-assembly and reassembly.

I hope this helped and good luck! Please rate my reply. Thanks.

SDHC - Nikon D40, can't reformat the card!

I am not sure but I think those memory cards have a lifetime warranty and there is a phone number on their website.
Have you tried to reformat the card using your computer and the software that came with the camera?
When removing the memory card, you have to be careful not to touch the gold connectors on it, any static will ruin the card.
Hope I helped a little.

Will not accept a SD Card now.

first are you still under warranty, if you are don t tell nikon it was dropped they may not cover it if it was dropped. Tell them it stopped reading cards all of a sudden. See if they can fix. If warranty is up may need to get it repaired yourself.i had similar problem with other name brand camera. i didnt fix though was inexpensive camera. I know nikons are high in price so you may want to get fixed.

It could be the card reader is unable to read the card not your pc. You might be able to get a firmware update from card readers web site.

Nikon D40 Memory Card Error

Hello. Make sure the write-protect switch on the SD card is in the UP (nearer to the contacts) position. Try the card in an SDHC capable reader on your computer first. Note that the SD card can only be inserted one way - make sure you're not putting it in upside-down! If the computer recognizes the presence of inserted card (whether it can read it or not), format it at FAT32. When finished, remove properly (icon in system tray) and insert into your D40 slot, WITH THE CAMERA OFF!! Turn on the D40, and if it now recognizes the SD card, FORMAT it again, in the camera. Good luck.
