Food freezing in Hotpoint refridgerator

I have a Hotpoint fridge, model number HTM17BBSERSA. Food in the bottom of the fridge is freezing. Is this something I could fix myself?

So is this a pretty simple repair? Do I need more than a screwdriver? Are you sure that is the exact part (how do I verify that?)?

Also, what are the chances that there is something else also wrong causing this issue? Or is it 95% chance that replacing this part will fix it?

If this is an hour of time and a $50 part that would be great. But if it takes a lot of work to figure it out, and I need more parts then it might be better to buy a new fridge.

    Thanks for the response Mike!

Thanks for the help Mike! I have ordered the part from appliancepartspros.com using the appdelivers coupon for an extra 3% off. I also called GE to verify the part number at 800-626-2000, 2 for parts.

The part should arrive this week, I'll let you know how it goes! If this works out, it will have saved me about $600 from buying a new fridge, and the peace of mind that I didn't throw out a perfectly good working fridge.

It looks like I spoke too soon. Put an ice cube tray in the bottom of the fridge last night, and it froze. Any other ideas? Is there some other adjustment?

Hello, Your problem is going to be with your cold control/Thermostat this can be located in the control console inside the refridgerator. This part needs to be replaced, the part number is WR9X10042 Good Luck!! if you have any other questions or concerns please feel free to comment again. Mike

Hello again, Yes all you need is a screw driver and yes I am about 99% sure this is your problem since there is nothing else that can cause freezing in the fridge. If the model # you gave me was correct then the part# i gave you was correct, should take no more then 20 minutes to change the part and it costs around $40 - $50. hope this helps :) please dont forget to rate my solution. Mike

Hi do you have the refridge control set midway example if the range is from 1-8 is it switched to 4? the only other thing that could possibly cause this problem is the baffle door between the freezer and fridge..if this is stuck open all the way the fridge would freeze, if the compressor is constantly running and your freezer is below 10f you are still having a problem with the cold control. Food in bottom of refridgerator is freezing

If that is the case you will have set the temperature in that compartment of the fridge too low. Adjust it little by little until the freezing problem is solved because the bottom of the unit will eventually not get to freezing point.

Freezer coils completely frost (freeze) up--refridgerator warms

Sounds like the defrost timer or something in the defrost circuit. Sears has a complete model number system that is confusing I know. Sears made it that way. Not sure why but look around the cold food door while open and look near bottom on the frame just above the kick plate. The number looks like this, (model No. 253.64802400 for example) Find that number and we can go from there, Thanks, Sea Breeze

Side by side refridgerator is running but not cold!

Need the exact model number to pull your model and see what it has and not have. I do think the defrost timer or the defrost board is not working properly. Your refrigerator should defrost every 8 to 10 hours. Look on bottom frame behind the fresh food section door near floor and try to find the model number. for example 261.128965 wi9th that number being correct or close I will be able to see what you have and help you better, Let me know, Thanks, Sea Breeze

Food in bottom drawer of fridge freezes. what is the problem?

Try adjusting the food compartment temp. There are many possible reasons that will cause this. Look for exact model number located inside food compartment bottom door when opened. For example 91.802574 This will give us the exact diagram to work with to help you solve this. Below is a link with Q&A that you also can use to resolve this problem.

Ffa70 hotpoint fridge freezer

Adjust the temperature control for the freezer to a normal setting. Fast freeze is only for when new products are put in that need to be frozen. This locks the system into a continuous run mode and could be responsible for the freezing condition in the refrigerator section. Check the temperatures with a thermometer as the sensor for the freezer temperature could be bad causing the light to come on.
