Vertical lines in scanned documents

Hello Computer Expert,

A thicker yellow line and a thin black vertical line appears on the screen when we scan a page. This is a single page feed scanner.

The copier seems to be working fine.

Please advise your solution.

Thanks,

M Healey

I had the exact same problem and it was a teeny tiny spot on the scan/copy glass. A good rub with a wet cloth and we're all good now.

Scan glass has muck on it, needs to be perfectly clear, it is just in where you feed originals.

.Try it but above will not apply if you can copy(not print) original without sign of marks appearing....just scanning Ummm Have you tried with a LOWER resolution... does it improve, or same?

Same mark everytime no matter what is being scanned?

Strange this problem, cause copy function of machine does exact process of a scan, and that works OK ....so it is the software that I would investigate after scan glass clean and double check of copy, I would delete drivers and scanning software and download and install fresh new and restest at low res.

If that failed then I would change scan lamp and clean optics (but I would of expected to notice this error when doing a copy)

Please let us know what happens.

Black vertical lines come and go for scans to computer and copies

I suspect the Document Feeder is not aligned properly and light is leaking in. You will need to have a technician in to check the alignment of the scanner to see if it needs to be readjusted. random black lines on edges usually indicate light leaking into the scan area.

I have a Epson cx11 and get a black vertical line down the middle of scans and copies

Check your flat bed and Document feeder scanning glass need to be clean, if any dot or dust in scanning glass of document feeder it will appear a line, check this points first
1- Check printouts from computer or FAX if it is clean problem in scanning section
2- Check using Copying a blank paper using only Flatbed if it prints without any line its problem from document feeder Scanning glass
So solution is clean the Document feeder scanning glass using wet cloth, note careful about wet cloth switch off the machine and clean it

the ocr sensor in the ADF needs to be replaced, I would recommend replacing the whole ADF as a whole.

I am scanning a photo. I have translucent lines running horizontal through the picture before i print it.

Documents scanned/copied from the document feeder pass over a thin glass area where scanning occurs. Clean this area if sent faxes, copies or scans have black or white vertical lines.
  1. Lift the document cover to expose the platen glass.

  2. Wipe the ADF scan area (C) with a clean, soft, lint-free cloth moistened with water.

  3. Then wipe with a clean, soft, dry, lint-free cloth making sure there are no residues left, especially on the platen glass.

  4. Close the document cover and make a copy of a text document to confirm the black line has disappeared.

When I scan pages in the computer using the document feeder a black line appears on the scanned pages. what can I do?

Try cleaning the PMT (Photo Multiplier Tube) - the glass tube that picks up the image. If there is a foreign body or dirt on the tube you will see a black line vertically (in the scan direction) on the page.

When using the ADF for scanning to pdf, it creates black lines vertically down the left side of the document. If I use the flatbed scanner, no lines.

Your machine ADF is dirty or dust in adf glass please clean it by soft cloth and scane again its clear and sharp.
thanks.

A thin horizontal line across the screen

I know I have seen thin lines in the past on older CRT monitors, these are usually wires which support the aperture grill. LCD is just a panel so this must be something different. What color is the line? It is probably an error in the scanning process.
