The printer is an hp2550. It has started printing cyan and magenta splotches on every output page when printing. I thought it might need a new drum so I bought one and installed it. Same problem. Help!

    Hello,

The output is clean with black and white only. In color very blotchy from the middle to the right side of the page. the blotches are color dots randomly placed and vertical an horizontal lines at top right. On left side cyan marks 1.5 inches apart going down the page.

    Hello again,

Was unable to find HP Toolbox that supports the HP 2550. I even called HP tech support and they told me that there were no tool box programs for my printer. Any other suggestions?

Hi there

Does this happen with all print jobs or only some? Does it happen even if printing only a black and white document, but the cyan and magenta splotches still appear? And finally, how large and spaced are these splotches - or are they more like tiny speckles?

Thanks.

    Thanks for your reply.

Do you have the HP Toolbox software installed? If not, you'll need to install it from printer's CD. With that install, try the printer's cleaning procedure as follows to see if it helps erradicate this problem.

    1. Make sure that the printer is turned on and in the Ready state.
    2. Open the HP Toolbox.
    3. On the Troubleshooting tab, click Maintenance, click Cleaning Page and then click
Print. A page with a pattern prints from the printer.
    4. At the printer, remove any print media that might be in tray 1.
    5. Remove the page that printed and load it face-down into tray 1.
    6. At the computer, press Clean.

Although simple, this would be a first step to see if it helps the problem at all. The problem you are describing initially does sound like a faulty toner cartridge to me, but let me know how the above cleaning procedure goes, and any results it has on the splotches.

    With regards

It is strange, according to their website the Toolbox does work with this printer. The only way to acquire it it seems is from the original CD as they're not providing a download.

Afraid I can only suggest having the printer serviced under warranty if possible.

    Best regards

How do I correct error c4152?

Magenta Print head (print head has the LASER inside of it that writes the image on the drum) in this case it is the magenta LASER. Open and close the front door to reset. If it comes back replace the print head. Normal done as a set of all four. (Black, Magenta, Yellow, and Cyan). Worse case is the relay board is bad or the Image control Board$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$.

MY HP LaserJet 2840 has a brand new Toner cartridge. Now it won't print at all and we are getting a "OPC at end of life" prompt. What does this mean?

Imaging drum reach 20,000 (black only) or 5,000 (color), replace the image drum.

Supplies life
The life of the imaging drum depends on the number of black-only or color pages that print jobs
require. Imaging-drum life is also affected each time the device calibrates because calibrating causes the imaging drum to rotate. Imaging-drum life is measured in terms of number of rotations rather than number of pages printed.
The type and length of print jobs also affects drum life. A series of short print jobs uses more drum
life than an equivalent number of pages printed in a single large job. To extend drum life, print
multiple copies of a print job at one time rather than sending the same job to the device multiple times.
The life of a print cartridge depends on the amount of toner that print jobs require. When printing text at 5% coverage, black print cartridges last an average of 5,000 pages and cyan, magenta, and
yellow print cartridges last an average of 2,000 pages. High-capacity cyan, magenta, and yellow print cartridges last an average of 4,000 pages. (A typical business letter has 5% coverage.)

Magenta doesnt print in proper place

Sounds like the new cartridge has been sitting around for too long. The solid lines are usually due to the drum being exposed to light for too long. The other reason could be the charger roller has been in contact with drum (in the cartridge) for a very long time and probably heat has a part in it as well. Try another cartridge.

IP4300 only recognizes magenta OR cyan

1. Get compressed air
2. Run Printhead under HOT water, do not worry about contacts getting slightly wet.

3. Blow compressed air with straw attachment into screens where the cartridge nozzle sits on printhead. then let it sit and dry.

4. reinstall print test page

5. if this fails open paint/photoshop and print a page of the color that is not printing correctly. rinse and repeat until colors flow freely.

I have several ip4300s and I have yet to give up the ghost on a printer with a clog ujsing this method.

Hp 4600 no cyan printing

Firstoff, if you have tray 1 set to "any size" & "any type" they had problems with it going into calibration to frequently. If you upgrade the firmware this will take care of that. As for no Cyan, check the scanner interlock to insure it is opening the scanner cover. You could also go into diagnostics and disable cartridge check and swap the cartridges around, ie. cyan & magenta, run the print quality pages and see if the problem follows the cartridge. It could also be HV power supply.

Oki C5800 prints magenta streaks

Streaks can be caused by a number of things
The fuser
The ETB
The toner cartridge
The firmware
The printer needs a cleaning.
The slot in the printer.
Incorrect Media.

Try cleaning the printer, use a lint-free cloth for the ETB, DO NOT touch the belt with your fingers, the oil from fingers will often make things worse.
Always use a lint-free cloth, if you ever encounter dirt inside the printer, dampen the cloth.

Calibrate the printer.
From the printer's control panel menu
Configure Device-> Print Quality-> Calibrate now.
(Press the Checkmark key to advance through menus)

Pages full of toner / toner streaking

First off, this is a comment from a random person who may or may not know ALOT about these printers and toner/printer design in general. All toners are not designed to the same specification. Toner is a combination of plastic "pigment" and iron like shavings to make it magentically attracted to the electrical charges within the unit. Different toners conform to different grades and mainly size of the particles within the blend. The manufacturer doesnt only recommend that you use their toner to make them money, yes of course it makes money, but its because when the unit is designed it is designed to use a certain grade of toner, trust me if you put the non-branded toner vs the branded toner under a microscope you would see quite a difference. Often the non-branded toner is much larger in particle size (obviousely because its cheaper to make at this spec). This causes a variety of issues from excess toner not being cleaned off of developer rollers, IDT rollers, or clogging of toner dispenser tubes in the unit and the micro filters contained at the toner dispenser assy and developer assys. Also as for the issue not changing when switching to dell branded toner - the dispenser tubes within this unit contain up to 500-1000 pages worth of toner, making no change in toner you make immediately visible. Also depending on the damage caused by the previous toner, it may not be able to be fixed until all the components in between the toner and final delivery (drum cart) are replaced. In this case more than likely the toner dispenser assy, all developer assy's, and drum cartridge need to be replaced, and than be sure to stick with factory branded toner :)
