2wire 2700 HG - Many problems and can't reset it!

I have this modem and I am experiencing some problems:

- DHCP server isn't working, after a while trying to obtain an valid IP from the router my NIC assumes the "Limited or no connectivity" status;
- The ethernet's port #1 light keeps always green, even without any cable connected;
- The ethernet's light in the front keeps always green, even without any cable connected;
- Sometimes I get an IP in 192.168.1.XXX range, but can't ping the default gateway;
- Even if I set an static IP in 192.168.1.XXX range I can't access the default gateway;
- I can see a wireless connection from it, but it is WEP protected and when I try to connect don't get an valid IP (even inserting the passkey), just the "Limited or no connectivity" status;
- When I try to connect trough wireless, its light in front blinks;
- I already tried to reset holding the reset button for several seconds, disconnecting the power cord and connecting without releasing it, and it don't reset it since the wireless connection keeps the same, without erasing the protection;

Any suggestions? Thank you,

Re: 2wire 2700 HG - Many problems and can't reset it!

You need to set up the 2 wire using an RJ45 ethernet cable and not wirelessly initially, and you need to set your ethernet lan adapter to obtain an ip address automatically and then type the default in your browser to get in the settings and then set or enable dhcp, and also enable wireless as by default it is dissabled and check the the adsl light is lit

Some 2wire routers normally come with WPA-PSK security already set up with the passkey on a sticker on the side of the router, so that may be why it stays set when you reset it.

Check that your wireles adapter is using the same type of security when you enter the passkey when wirelessly connecting.

I bridged an either-net cable from 2wire modem to Net Gear Wireless router. I need to turn off wireless (DHCP?) on the 2Wire modem, since it is unecessary. I am prompted at login for admin password at...

If you want to turn off dhcp for 2wire then connect the two wire to a computer and use : .But if you are doing in for netgear then yes you can use : with the user name as admin
password as password

*** it will work only if you have never customized the router admin password . else do a hard reset of router (pin hole in the back - press and hold 20 secs )and the router will be in factory default mode ..

I have a 2wire HG-B modem/router and I want to extend my wireless network by using a Hawking HWRN1A router. How do I configure my 2wire with my Hawking router, so it can work?

this hint is only possible if your hawking can be used a an access poit. if yes then try try the following:

connect you adsl line into your modem/router,

connect the lan cable of your modem into a switch

connect both your PC and Hawking into the switch

have your modem/router provide DHCP and DNS

configure your PC to gte its ip address and DNS dynamically

configure your hawking access point to also get its dns and dhcp dynamically (do this by getting into the hawking http page configuration, or telnet if you are good with commands)

now set a wireless lan with WPA or higher through your hawking.

there you have it.
doubts??? i have more solutions

RE: My posted. Connecting DSL/Router to DIR-628 internet router

Installing a router to work as the second one on a home networkrequires special configuration. Do the following on the second routerto ensure it (and the devices attached) function properly:1. Connect as local device or bridge - If connecting the second router via Ethernet cable, plug it into one of the LAN ports on the first router. If connecting the second router wirelessly, ensure the second router is set for client mode.Note that some home wireless routers do not support client mode; thesemust be connected by cable. Check your router documentation for detailson its client mode configuration support.

2. Check / change IP address - Most home network routers use a default IP addresssetting. Often, these default IP addresses will not work in a tworouter environment. Check the second router's IP address value andreset it if necessary to work within the valid address range of thefirst router (and to not conflict with any other device on the network).

3. Disable DHCP- To avoid IP address conflicts between all of the devices on the homenetwork, only one of your two routers should assign addresses via DHCP. All mainstream routers provide an option to disable DHCP as part of the router's configuration screens.

(My netgear router supports client mode. The 2wire supports bridged and router mode. My 2wire is the main router. I set up my netgear using my laptop. Once you change the address on the router.. You will only be able to directly access through the main router to the 2701.)

Configure your 2701 IP address to a static address in the range and diable DHCP. Only 1 router can run the DHCP service. To disable Dhcp on the 2701.... log on to 2701> click on home network>advanced settings>uncheck enable DHCP>Next section is Public routed subinterface...Check enable and Aout Firewall Open>Input your main router address and mask>save config..

This worked with the Netgear router.. May not with your router. Good Luck! Hope this helps!

1.can i use my 2wire 1800hg with vista?hooked up to ethernet connection.- yes its possible make sure you enable dhcp on your lan side of you router and under tcp/ip on your pc set it to authomatic assign IP address and dns server address. most router use as thier default address to access it.

to fix your passkey problem.need to access the router and try to change the passkey then save and don't forget to restart the router after you save it,by unplugging it. "make sure your passkey is 8 characters long"

2 wire 2700 hg-b

The 2Wire 2700 is a residential gateway, a modem and router in-one. There is an RJ-11 jack in the back of the gateway and this is where your dsl phone cord plugs in. There are four RJ-45 jacks in the back for connecting devices using ethernet cable. As a router is can operate both wirelessly and wired. For wireless operation you'll need the WEP key which is located on the tag on the bottom of the gateway. It's the number enclosed in brackets, between the two bar codes.

Connecting a netgear wireless router to a 2wire

before you connect the netgear router to your 2wire modem, you have to get the modem configured first. you did not include the firmware version of your modem (firmware version is found at the UI, go to, click on the system icon.) for firmware version less than 3.7, go to homeportal/management, click on configure services, uncheck enable routing, then click on submit. for version 3.7 or higher, go to homeportal/management, click on configure under broadband link, put a dot in disable pvc search, set VPI to 0 & VCI to 35, the connection type box should be direct IP, then click on submit. then go to configure services, uncheck enable routing box, then click submit. you will notice the broadband link on the 2wire modem turn orange/amber, then you have successfully set the modem to bridged mode. that way you can now connect the router according to manufacturer's instructions (or just read the manual for the netgear router....)
