Question about GE Profile PSW26P Stainless Steel Side by Side Refrigerator

1 Answer

Ice dispenser does not work and water dispenser works rarely.

Had a repairman out yesterday, said I needed a new solenoid. Came back today and installed the solenoid. Now nothing works. Is going to replace the touch control panel board tomorrow. Total cost about $200. Chances are the old solenoid was okay and the board is the problem. Seems that GE is not the most reliable maker. This refrigerator is 4 years old.

Yes, the solenoid is a plunger solenoid for the ice dispenser on the door.

  • febsharp7 Jul 24, 2009

There is a plunger solenoid in the door that controls the flap or chute that allows the ice cubes out into a glass. At least in my refrigerator.

The solenoid is in the rear of the freezer and is used to activate cubed or crushed ice. The auger motor to dispense ice is also in the rear of the freezer. All command functions are in the control panel at the front to send signals to the solenoid or auger motor and water in the door. What was your original problem?

Ice dispenser solenoid just started clicking

You need to replace both the solenoid for the ice maker and the water dispenser. Easy job, less than 1 hour. Parts should be under $50. Facing the back of the refrigerator the solenoids are located on the lower right behind the hardboard cover where the water comes.

The he replacement parts are a little different than what you have, and much easier to work with. Just cut the water lines close to the old solenoids (you don't have much extra to play with). You'll just push the water lines into the new solenoid valves.

Make sure the water is off and the refrigerator is unplugged.

My new refrigerator's ice maker and water dispenser doesnt work

Since this is a brand new unit, I wouldn't waste the time or money troubleshooting it yourself; contact the place you purchased it from and exchange it.

That is the inlet water solenoid you hear click. The water maybe frozen somewhere in the hose. You can check for water getting through the solenoid valve by pulling the hose off going to the freezer and have someone push the dispense button while you hold a towel to catch the water coming out of the solenoid. If that works, then the hose is frozen or clogged.

Ice maker not making ice water dispenser works well

There are 2 solenoids, one controls the water dispenser the other controls the ice maker water supply. Follow the tubing down the back of the refrigerator to find the ice maker solenoid. If the line is frozen between the back of the refrigerator and the ice maker it won't make ice either. If the line is frozen you need to check to see if the solenoid is leaking, this allows a trickle of water to continously flow through the lina and freeze.

Ice maker makes ice cubes, but the doesn't dispense ice cubes.

If you could observe exactly where the water is dripping from it would help but...If it overfills and drips, look for an adjustment behind the plastic endcover with a +/- on it. - is less water.
If it continuously drips, replace the water inlet valve on the back where the house water supply comes in.
The water inlet valve on the back of the unit where the water supply comes in can have a slow leak and will cause ice to buildup and block the fill tube. Disconnect the ice maker line from the valve and watch to see if it has a slow drip. It doesn’t take much to eventually block the fill tube.

No agua !

you would have to start with the water supply.
check if you have water coming to the fridge.

close the tap going to the fridge, open the line to the solenoids and open the tap. if there is water then supply is ok.

next check if there is power going to the water solenoid . ( this is different from ice maker solenoid) be sure to know which one.

press the dispenser, there should be power to the solenoid and solenoid should click open. if there is none, electrical problem is present.

last thing to check is the micro switch in the dispenser.

it should have contact when you press the dispenser.

tnx 4 using fixya,

Water dispenser fine but ice maker not working

Hi. A good way to check the ice maker water solenoid valve is to swith the wire lead from the dispenser water solenoid valve to the ice maker water solenoid valve. Now push the water dispenser lever and water should come out your ice maker fill tube. If not, either the fill tube is frozen or the ice maker water solenoid valve is bad. Take the 1/4 inch tube that runs up the back of your freezer off at the ice maker water solenoid valve and blow thru it. If you can't, the tube is frozen. If you can, the valve is bad. Good luck, Mack

Water is going to dispenser in door but not to icemaker.

The first thing I would look at is the two solenoids on back of refrigerator. Each of the two have 2 wires. Switch the two sets of the two and then try the water dispenser. If the dispenser then don't work the ice maker should begin filling. If this happens you will need to purchase a new duel solenoid for that fridge. Hope this helps, Sea Breeze

Water/Ice Dispenser is not working

Some models need the filter inplace to pass water. First check it again with a new filter in just to be sure the filter isn't clogged. Next... do you hear any click or such noise from the rear of the unit when you push the water dispenser? The solenoid valves may be bad. Also check the valves at the back of the frige to see if the filter screen isn't clogged blocking water from getting into the frige all together. Let us know what you find and post again.
