Question about Philips 60PP9202 60" Rear Projection HDTV-Ready Television

1 Answer

Convergence Issue My television recently started acting up on me. It has green and red/purple looking lines at the bottom of my screen, and it's in the shape of a half moon. It is really annoying. About two weeks after my 3 yr warranty expired it started. I have searched on the web and the issue seems to point to some hardware failure due to heat. Well I live in the desert so I know for sure heat is an issue here. I just wanted to make sure I am heading in the right direction as far as diagnosis. Any help is appreicated.

    Terryfic,

Thanks for the speedy reply. I can't believe how much the local repair guys are asking for to repair it.

Now I haven't had the chance to open my tv and find the IC's as of yet, but does the old ones have the model number on them? And what's the difference between, STK392-110 & STK394-160E? Will my model tv work with either or do I need to replace the old ones with the exact same model?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Terryfic - I am having the same issue but it appears I have the 120's. My part number is STK392 120. Do you recommend a different approach?

    Terryfic,

I finally got the board out that has the IC's.

They are STK392-120's x2, which IC's do you recommend and which website can I order them at a reasonable price from?

    Thanks in advance.

    Terryfic,

Thanks again for the speedy reply. I did a search on partstore.com and found the part number for $13.26 each. I have seen them for about 5-6 dollars on electronixonline.com but decided the more pricey on should be comparable to the OEM ones. Will update you when they come in and once I install them. Thanks again.

    Terryfic,

I need your inoput bud. My tv has been working great since I replaced the ICs. But not until today I have noticed a ripple like on the tv screen. It starts from the top and goes down the screen. It is not so noticeable but when I'm viewing a channel with a white or light back ground you can see it. You really need to pay attention to see it. It looks like a wave effect.

Have you seen this? If yes what is it?

    Terryfic,
I popped in my transformers dvd and it doesn't seem to do it with dvds. It's only with my satellite cable. It didn't do that ever before and I have dishnetwork for 2 years now. I will monitor it some more and let you know at a later time.

I really appreciate the time you've given me with my tv. Thanks and keep up the good work.

    Locate IC's on large heatsinks = verify part # = 110's?

Use upgrade to improve longevity, they are higher wattage....

Hi,

It's a convergence issue. Go into the main TV menu under video settings and look for convergence. If it has an auto convergence select that and wait a minute the TV will adjust itself and give you a clear picture.
If the TV does not have an auto convergence and just regular convergence than select this. It will give you a grid pattern on your TV and you have to move the cursor (using TV remote) and adjust each "point" so that each line is perfectly white. If you notice red or blue anywhere on that "line" then you have to adjust using the up, down, left and right arrow keys to "line up the red and blue lines with the nearest white line. It takes time and patience to do, but when completed, all lines on the grid pattern should be pure white and you will have a great looking picture.
You have to do this will all TV inputs (Video1, Video2 and so on) the reason Zoom looks good, is because you never used that screen as much and so the lenses didn't have a chance to get out of synch.
RPTV's are made of the three lenses (red, Blue and Green) and as you watch TV, these lenses slowly get out of alignment. So you should do a convergence about twice a year to make sure nothing is out of whack.

You can pay somebody to do it, but may cost you like 100.00 or do it yourself, it is very easy just tedious and time consuming. If you have the auto convergence than your golden because this is the easiest way to "reset" the TV.

Hope this will help in solving the problem....

Panasonic pt-47wx53g red is out of convergence range

Have you moved the TV recently?, if so the red can(Red source) in the back bottom of the TV may have physically shifted in its holder, this is common when a rear projection tv is moved, jostled. Take the back off, look at the three cans,Red, Blue, Green, see if they all look like they are nested the same, bet the red is shifted a little.Good Luck with it!

you either have a color purity problem or a convergence problem. purity can be effected by electro magnets in power supplys of audio amps and subwoofers too close to the tv

Convergence is the ability of the red green blue to drop on top of each other. can usally be adjusted via remote control. Please claify and repost.

Projection TV sets have two very common problems listed below.

Problem #1) Convergence

These sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the picture to look normal. This is called convergence.

When its out of alignment the video will look 3-D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired. Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony, Samsung,JVC,Philip Magnavox,Panasonic,Akai,Pioneer, Hitachi,Mitsubishi,Zenith and others.
You can get more information and a DIY convergenece repair kit with instructions from the link below.

Here are some of the most common problems with these sets...

*Screen Looks 3-D
*Colors wont align
*Screen may look distorted or warped
*No Audio/Video - TV Shuts down - May also make a constant chirping sound

Problem #2 - Another common problem is dull or washed out video.

Your set may have one or more of the following symptoms....

*Dull looking picture
*White looking picture
*Halos around objects
*Red/Orange looking picture

Screen hazzy and issue with blue convergence

bad convergence would cause show to look as if it was supposed to be a 3-d movie, if a bulb was going out then people would look purple blue -green,or some other off color, so likely the green bulb is going out from the color of the people you described.

Red and Green colors do no line up

It was most likely the convergence amplifiers. If you look up "convergence amplifier" on this site or google you will find lots of information. The part number(s) will be something like STK392-110.

I recently helped a friend repair this problem. If you are comfortable soldering it won't be too bad.

PT 47 convergence IC's? box? both?

Always suspect the IC's first, digital convergence prblems are actually pretty rare IC's go everyday. I'd check partsore .com Generics usually work fine, they are probably STK392-110's but check to make sure.
