SOURCE: it freezes when playing a blueray movie. it seems

The most likely cause of your frustration with the BDP-S350 is that your player's firmware is not the most current. Most often, the firmware problem is JAVA related and will not let the menus load at all, but freezing during playback has also been reportedly fixed with the firmware upgrade.

The solution is to go to sony's website, download the firmware upgrade, burn it to a disc and then load the disc into the player to fix it.

I hope that helps.

Can I play older DVDs on a new BlueRay player?

Yes, there should be no problem. The reverse does not work, blu-ray will not play on a regular DVD player though.

Codex for blueray

Ok first you need a blueray player not a dvd/cd rw drive. The blueray play will come with software for you to install that will install the proper codecs for you movies. This software will have to be updated periodically.

It won't play blueray discs. It will play the regular cd's but not the games and blueray cds.

The most likely cause is that you have fried the BluRay laser in the unit, unfortunately you will have to contact sony and have them replace it for a fee unless you are still under warranty in which case they will do it for free(Excluding shipping and handling) unless you are highly adept to saudering, in which case there are tutorials on the internet for replacing a BluRay laser in a PS3. WARNING: DO NOT ATTEMPT THIS UNLESS YOU KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING!!!

How can you hook up a dvd blue player to play disc i can play regular disk but not blueray

?? Blu-ray needs a Blu-ray player. If you have a regular DVD connected now, you will need a Blu-ray player connected the same way, through Component cables or with HDMI if this model has that.

PS3 won't play blu ray or games. Will play

Mine just did the same thing two days ago. i have been researching the internet about this cause im not about to spend 150 through sony. anyway what is going on is there are two seperate diods in the laser compartment, one reads blurays and which is also ur games because they are consetered blueray also, and the other diod is for regular dvd and music cds. sounds like the blueray diod has took a ****. To get that part you have to order a new laser which is 150. youtube will show you how to change it. looks very easy

The system is no longer reading any disk. Has my driver gone out?

IIf the system will play regular cd's and regular movies(non blueray) the problem is the blueray portion of the laser assy. If it won't read anything, you probably have a bad laser assy all together. Either way, you will have to replace the whole laser carriage assy. I think they go for about $70 on ebay. Fairly technical fix if you want to do it yourself. If not, find a local PS3 repairman to perform the work. Good luck!
