Black & Decker MM875 Mower Sparks and Flips Breaker

I just bought a used Black & Decker MM875 corded electric lawn mower. When I try to start it, the motor turns on for a second and sparks where the little spring magnets meet the plates at the top of the motor. Then the circuit breaker turns the power off. My neighbor has an identical mower, and I verified that everything is connected the same on both mowers. I would like to know what might be causing this response and if there is a way to fix it without buying a new motor. Thanks.

The rectifier is a flat plate with 4 posts that attach the electric wiring inside. You will need a flathead screwdriver to remove the four screws holding down the cover on your mower. on top where all the wires run (you will probably see one burned) There is a screw in the middle holding down the plate, you will need to replace the plate and resplice the wires that may be burned.

one of the problems i found with electric detectors was that they do not tell you if there is a break in the neutral cable so you could have a break there, another problem is that the levers can break inside the cover giving the impression that it should work but is not making contact with the switch ,hope this helps
