The laser is failing. It's called "digital drop-out". A replacement laser runs around $60, but you're better off just replacing the unit.

VCR play is scrambled like it's not tracking right.

run the tape fully from one end to the other, and back again.

If that doesn't work, see if you can still buy VHS cleaning tapes, which polish the head surface.

If this doesn't work, there are these new fangled DVD and Blue Ray players :>)

Green tint on TV screen when playing DVD's or Videos 2nd problem and can't record anything

1: Hi i would recommend trying the recorder on a different tv to check if the problem continues. If the green tint is gone then its the tvs inputs. If it is still green then its the player or the cord. Try a different cord if the green tint is still there then the player has a problem.

2: Now for the VHS to DVD. There are general a lock out encoded on the VHS if it is a store bought movie. This is to protect the content on the VHS from piracy and that would case the DVD to be blank. The VHS to DVD are made for converting your home videos like family vacations and stuff you record your self and not for commercial movies like the ones you bye at the store. If you want to convert old VHS movies to DVD you would have to get another VHS player and another device in between the VHS player and the VHS to DVD recorder.

Can record on DVD disc will not play on DVD player

Make sure the materials you're trying to record onto the DVD
is not Copyrighted. Try to record a normal TV program onto your
VHS, transfer it to your DVD and then play it. See if that will
work. A VHS movie is usually Copyrighted and Protected by
Macrovision. The picture output can be displayed on a TV set
for viewing but is scrambled black to a DVD Recorder.

Dvd would play then stop and got scrambled. had to unplug and plug back in. eventually, this would not work anymore and now won't power on at all.

Theres issues with ur motherboard. How old is this player? I would recommend u to seek the nearest repair center and to get a quote. If its too expensive, then buy a new one.

Blank VHS tapes work; Movie VHS tapes don't

Hello statman_4

I have an important question; Are you watching a VHS tape you recorded of another VHS movie? In other words did You rent Ben Hur and record it and then tried to watch the recording? If you did that's your problem. VCRs in the late 1990's (1997-1999) began to employ MacroVision circuitry in all VCRs, and DTR. MacroVision Circuitry makes the VCR record tapes with MacroVision in such a way that the horizontal and vertical sync pulses are not at the proper amplitude, and the AGC (Automatic Gain Control) is tricked into over compensating thus creating the scrambled picture. There is a way around this. You need to buy a video stabilizer SIMA makes such devices and some other companies do to. You feed the signal from your VCR into the unit and it corrects the video image by readjusting the video signal.

I hope this helps,

Thank you,

Can't see/use the menu to change settings govideo vhs/dvd DV1030a

I JUST CAME ON THIS SITE A HALF HOUR AGO.. IT IS 5:56 AM AND I HAVE BEEN WRESTLING WITH MY GO VIDEO ALL NIGHT LONG. GOOD THING I'M RETIRED. THAT BEING SAID, I READ IN THE MANUEL THAT YOU CAN RESET YOUR MACHINE TO THE FACTORY SETTINGS WHICH SHOULD DO THE TRICK.

1. PRESS AND HOLD THE POWER BUTTON FOR AT LAST FIVE SECONDS. THIS WILL
FORCE THE UNT TO POWER OFF.
2. PRESS THE POWER BUTTON AGAIN TO TURN THE UNIT BACK.ON.
3. UNPLUG THE POWER CORD AND WAIT AT LEAST FIVE SECONDS AND PLUG IT BACK IN. AGAIN. HOPEFULLY THIS WILL WORK. I WISH MY PROBLEM WAS SO EASY. LET KNOW.

Menu scrambled

Try resetting the unit. On the front panel of the unit (not the remote) hold down the channel up and down buttons for 5-7 seconds without a disc inside. This is a factory reset.

I did this this morning and so far so good.

Scrambly TV

take a quick peek in the manual and find out where to disable the progressive scan features. may be a button on the back, or you may have to go through the on screen menu to find it. take the disc out and see if you can view what's on screen. or since you said you had a couple of movies that did work properly, put one of those in, start the movie, go into the dvd player setup menu and disable the progressive scan settings

DVD Plays in Black and White

Depending what cables you have, try plugging only the yellow cable into "video out", I previously had red, white, and yellow cables plugged into "comopents out" and only got black and white. Doing only the yellow into video out gave me color.
