Question about Water Pik Flow Valve Assy. Series II Bronze 325

1 Answer

Back - siphoning when the pump turns off.

I have an above-ground pool with a sand filter system. The intake is about 10 inches from the top edge of the pool and the pump is on the ground. When the pump turns off, water rushes back through the intake and shoots about 2 feet in the air. Whatever debris has collected in the basket shoots out into the pool again. Does anyone know why this is happening? We have change the sand recently and clean out the pump filter daily. Thank you!

Our pool is about 90000 litres of water so how big filter do we need please

If you have a above ground pool go with the Cartridge or sand, and if underground go sand or D.E. All have their ups and down you should find out what you want from them specifically cause they all do varying amounts of the same thing.

Sand Filters
(Filters using literally sand)
For sand filters, on inground pools, I like to use a 30 inch tank diameter, which is a 4.9 sq. ft. filter surface area, and holds 600 lbs of sand. For small pools (under 20,000 gals), I might advise the next size down (24 inch tank), if the budget is tight. But never go smaller than a this for an inground pool.
Cartridge Filters (like a air filter)
I have a rule of thumb for cartridge pool filters. 100 sq. ft. of filter surface area per 10,000 gals of pool water, as a minimum. I like to see the 400 sq. ft. models on inground pools above 25,000 gals. These can go an entire season without cleaning in most cases.
D.E. Filters (Ground up fossilized algae)
Because they offer the most superior type of filtration, people tend to go small with DE, and buy a 24 or 36 sq. ft. DE filter. Ugh - go Big! Nothing below a 48 sq. ft. filter, and if your pool is over 25,000 gals, go with the Big Boy - the 60 sq. ft. filter.

Also make sure the filter can take the amount of water that the pump is pushing through it.

When backwashing...sand discharges out backwash hose..

A little sand in backwash is not uncommon. Many packaged sand filter systems use pumps whose flow rates greatly exceed the flow capacity of the filter.(the more horsepower the better, right? - Wrong) If this occurs only during back flush the the pump is too strong or the sand level is above the beginning of the rounded top of tank. The sand level will eventually correct itself.

When turning pump on sand shoots into pool app. two seconds.replaced diverter and lateral coponents. still does the same thing. twm 19 inch p/n 520-1910

If you don't have a manual you can download one here:

Are you sure you didn't damage laterals when adding sand. Best to have 1/4 water in filter as you add sand. Be sure o ring is in place in multiport valve that fits on downtube.Be sure down pipe is not too low to enter multiport valve. The pipe should fit snugly into the multiport valve o ring. Be sure you have correct sand (pool filter sand only) IF all this is ok, try backwashing till glass is clear. Run on rinse position for a few min. THen go back to filter and see if it still pumps in sand.

I replaced the sand in the filter and had the gasket replaced. When I turn the pump on no matter what the setting all of the water comes out the waste port on the pump. I am getting very little water out...

Check your skimmer and pump basket for an obstruction that might be causing your lack of water flow to and from the pool. There could also be a restriction in your intake/return lines. Also, check for air intake in the return line (cracks or breaks). Any one of these issues could be causing problems with these sand pool filters.

Hayward sand filter not filtering small particles

You probably have too big of pump. It is pushing the finer stuff right back into pool. Try adding a clarifier. Don't backwash either until the pressure goes up.

Replace the lateral assembly. Be sure to fill the tank just under half way with water before adding the sand back in. Otherwise you risk cracking the laterals.
