SOURCE: Well my Garmin nuvi 1300 was working fine

SOURCE: Garmin Nuvi 205 can't unlock maps
First, check to make sure the map file is there. The file name is gmapprom.img. It's located in the Garmin directory. It should be 1GB in size. To do this you need to connect the Nuvi to a PC with a USB cable.
Next, please tell me what year of map you have on your unit, 2009, 2010, etc.
Them, email me your units internal serial number. Its a 10 digit number (not the number on the outside). The number starts with a "3" and can be found by pressing the tools button, then system and then "about".

There's a solution to your problem at http://www.fixya.com/support/r6197735-no_detailed_maps_found_support_routing
The article deals with all possible reasons for there being no map data available but if your satnav is working other than that it may be just that the map is not selected. If you can get into the menus first try selecting the map by
pressing TOOLS
then SETTINGS or LOCALE on models that don't have a settings menu
Press MAP and then at the bottom of the screen press MAP INFO
Your map name should be there and a box with a tick beside the name.
If the box is not ticked press on the map name and it will cause the tick to appear. This might solve the problem. If not the map is probably locked. You'll find details of how to unlock the map at the above link.

Your map file may be corrupt. You can go to the Garmin website where you registered your unit, and download the same map. If you want to update to a newer map you can do that as well. To ensure that you have the correct map you will have to register your unit if you haven't already done so. Go to the following link:
https://my.garmin.com/mygarmin/customers/myGarminHome.faces
You will have to first make sure that your GPS is attached to your computer with the black USB cable that came with your unit. Plug the smaller end into the back of the unit and the larger end into one of your USB ports. The GPS will automatically power on. You will see a graphic on the bottom of your screen that looks like a GPS connected to a computer. A line will appear halfway up the screen which will start as a white line and then change to a green one. Once that is done you can register at the above site. The website will attempt to connect to your GPS so that it can read your model and serial numbers. It will then show you which maps are available for you.
SOURCE: My sat nav 1300 won't get past 'loading maps'
I had the same problem after update. The solution was very simple. I let the device running with the Loading maps screen for about 30 minutes (pretty long time if you are afraid that your device is bricked) and looked for help on internet. Suddenly the screen went blank and then main menu appeared. Navigation was very slow, response for touch about 1 second. After about 3 minutes popup appeared, saying that update is in progress. I waited next 2 minutes and then device turned off. After manual turning on it started as usual, quickly and with new firmware. Whoaaaah!!
