Question about Frigidaire FAC106P1 Thru-Wall/Window Air Conditioner

I have a fac106p1 eng2, overheating fan motor

I have a fac106p1 eng2, my prob is that now if the unit runs in ''energy save'' mode and the fan goes slower there is a sqeeking sound till the fan completely locks an the fanmotor is red hot - but - when i keep the unit in ''cool'' and let the fan run (you do not notice real speed differences in l-m-h) the unit runs the whole day (with a less hot fan motor)
what can be the prob ? the capacitor (fanmotor overheating in low speed) or the fanmotor unit or else ??

I took the whole unit apart today, tested the capacitor 15/40 uf and this one is good, but the fanmotor is completely rotten after 2 years, with a big rusty hole in the case so inside the motor is wet.
Strange is this because on the rest of the unit you cannot find much traces of 2 year working.
Now is the trick to find a fanmotor new/used, but so far it looks like buying a new AC is cheaper ...

First check the capacitor measure, see if measurement correspond with its label ex. 40 mf or 50 mf. I believe the winding for the fan motor are loosing its insulation, you might need to replace the fan motor, if installing new one follow the diagram and rotation their is an arrow indicating the rotation of the fan blade

Yes with water coming in, motor looses its insulation creating more heat eventually it lock, maybe u can get someone to rewind the motor for u. Get quotes and see if it is better to get the fan or the whole a.c unit

Fan stops working when unit is running in the cooling mode

If this is a window type unit, it is set on energy savings. This makes the fan cycle with the compressor. Take it off energy savings and the cooling should cycle with the cold control and the fan should stay on..

I have a Frigidaire gallery series fridge. The fan runs all the time and rarely turns off. The condenser kicks off and on normally and it's maintaining temperature but I don't know what it's causing the...

Hi Brandy,

As for your fans, the fans in the back of the unit, (bottom back of the unit, not inside) is called a condenser fan motor this only cools the compressor for the fridge. This fan only runs when the compressor is running. The other fan is in the freezer section and is a variable speed fans motor, this can do two different things with only one job. The fan itself can ramp up and down in speed to control air flow and temperature demand in the two sections. This can run a lot but should slow down when temperature is met or while in a defrost mode. So to sum up this answer, it is common to hear fans run in the newer unit over the older units. Believe it or not do save energy with just moving air over running the compressor all the time.

I hope this helps.

Window ac unit shuts off when outside temp is lower then inside temp, doesn't help to turn down ' it still will turn off' its insulated all around very good and its new

It might have a "Green Feature", for lack of a better word. Does the unit still run the fan at all?

If the fan still runs without the compressor, then it is cooling in what they call economizer mode, basically uses the outside air to cool and save on energy.

That is my educated guess.

If you have a user manual for it, look to see if there is a energy saving feature to it.

Condenser fan does not come up to full speed.

These Ptac units are advance system that are designed with variable speed motors that modulate in order to save energy, This is normal operation, because starting a motor at a lower speed rather than the conventional high speed will save energy, which translates to saving you money. As the load increases (heat) on the condenser coil, the fan will ramp up accordingly.

Keeps flashing ES, not cooling. Not even one year old.

The 2 most common issues are a freon leak or the outside unit fan start capacitor goes out. It's more likely a capacitor issue. They fail regularly, especially when it's as hot as it's been this year. I had a fan capacitor go out on one of my 3 units last year and it cost close to $300 for an AC company to come out and fix it. I watched them fix it and it's something that you can do yourself if you know what you're doing and are careful to hook it up right. I have three AC units and another capacitor went out this year and I found a kit with detailed instructions with pictures and phone support at It saved me over $200 on the capacitor replacement.

Do you think GE TBX18KMB refigerator save energy?

most refrigarators now a days that have energy star rating use less power to run by having a inverter that inverts ac volts to dc votls and all motors (compressor, freezer fan&compressor fan)run on dc voltage it take one eighth of the power to run a motor on dc that it does on ac, so a motor that use to take 120 vac to run now takes 15 volts dc to run at the same exact speed. So yes they save power

Aircon won't start

Unplug it and open it up. You are looking for a capacitor that goes to the compressor and fan. It may be shaped like a cylinder. On one end, it may be pushed out from within. This is a blown capacitor. Replace this part and the AC should run again.

I have fixed several central air units by finding and replacing the bad capacitor.

When you open it up, also look for burn out wires.
