GE WSM2480TBAW Spacemaker Laundry, Won't Drain or Spin

Hi, I have a GE WSM2480TBAW Spacemaker Laundry. It dose not drain or spin. I've read in more than one place that it is possibly the lid switch. Can you tell me how to access the switch to check it, and even give your opinion on the problem and other things to check for.
Thanks,
Kenny

    Hi Vic,
It was the lid switch...thank you.
I have another problem The cold water takes forever to fill the machine. It's been this way for a long time, but I'm just realizing now that it's not normal.
I disconnected the hose from the back of the machine and the water pressure is fine coming out of the hose. Any suggestions?
    Thanks

I checked that out. It's a cone shaped screen that's recessed into the inlet valve. I wasn't sure if that screen could be removed. I didn't want to pry it out or anything like that and break something. Is there an easy way to clean it. Also, my machine is in a tight location, so I just might have to disconnect the dryer vent and gas line to pull it out of the niche it's in to get proper access if necessary.
Thanks again. I would've never figured out how to get at that lid switch without your knowledge.

    Hi Vic,
I finally got around to dealing with the water pressure issue I asked about last August (I've been using my parents laundry).
To refresh your memory, I'm getting a very slow flow of cold water when the tub is filling for wash and rinse.
Here's what I did so far:
    1. I took off the inlet hose, took out the screen and cleaned that with CLR, and also, let some CLR get into the inlet by letting is sit in the hose for a while. No change in water pressure.
    2. I removed the rubber hose that comes out of the water inlet valve from the larger rubber hose that goes to the drum. With the knob set to cold/cold I only get a trickle when I push the start knob, when I turn the temperarue knob to either warm or hot the water comes gushing out.
    3. There's paperwork attached to the waher panel that says to test the valve with an ohm meter and I should get 200-900 ohms. I get 900 ohms on both the hot and cold valve.
    4. I also get 120 volts coming out of the wiring harness that goes to the cold valve when I push the start knob.
    I'm thinking I need a new valve.
    Do you agree?
Is there anything else I can try to free up the existing one?
Any advice on replacing it. It looks like there are only two screws that you loosen from the back, outside of the machine to remove the valve, unless there's more to it that I haven't come across yet.
    Thanks,
    Kenny

Hi,
you need to remove the slanted panel between the washer and the dryer. There will be 2 screws holding the top of the washer to the cabinet. Locate the screws on the back edge of the washer top along with the 2 brackets that hold the top.
Once the brackets have been removed, the washer top panel will pull toward you and lift off of the cabinet. You will be able to see the lid switch and test it. If you are testing the lid switch for continuity, remamber to activate the switch while testing. If the switch shows an open circuit, replace the switch.
Please let me know if this hhelps you at all or if I can assist you further.

Thanks
Vic

Hi. I am glad you have the lid switch issue solved. I am sorry I did not respond sooner. I am just getting back on line because I moved. To solve the water pressure issue, try removing the cold water fill hose from the inlet valve and clean the screen located inside the inlet valve. This should cure the problem. Please let me know how things turn out.

    Thanks

If you take the hose off and just use a short burst of water from the hose, it should flush out the screen. If you are gentle with the end of a screw driver you can scrape the screen as well/

    Please let me know

Washer won't drain or enter spin cycle

SHOULD BE THE LID SWITCH... THERE IS TWO SWITCHS INSIDE, ONE THAT STOP THE MACHINE, AND ONE TO LOCK THE DOOR. YOU SHOULD SEE THERE IS TWO PAIRS OF WIRES THAT CONECT WITH THE LID SWITCH, ONE PAIR IN THE FRONT, AND ANOTHER PAIR IN THE RIGHT SIDE, THAT RIGHT SIDE IS THE PROBLEM, INSIDE THE LID SWITCH MUST BE BROKEN. TRY TO MOVE THE PLATED LOCKING PIN IN THE DIRECTION THAT LOCKS THE DOOR, AND IT MIGHT DRAIN AND SPIN. IF THAT THE PROBLEM, YOU SHOULD GET A NEW SWITCH (MODEL 134101800), AND YOURE DONE.
GOOD LUCK

Wsm2700dawww dryer will spin laundry still wet

Possible that the speed is of the spin is not enough, check the belt , check for friction to the shaft in the washer.
finally check the drain valve /pump as if there is water logged on without flushing then the valve is clogged or dirty.

HI: My washer will not drain all the water out at the end of the wash can you help me out

Hello there and thank you for choosing fixya

Spin cycle If the washer doesn't reach its proper spin speed, the clothes may be too wet at the end of a cycle. Check to be sure the load is properly balanced and run a spin cycle again. If the clothes are still wet, you may have a worn or loose belt (Maytag®), a worn clutch (GE®/Hotpoint®), or a worn motor pulley or tub bearing. Replace the applicable component. Alternatively, there could be clothes caught between the inner and outer tubs. Read the "It spins but won't pump" section of the "It won't drain" section. Also, there could be other things that cause friction on the drive train. Seek the assistance of a qualified appliance repair technician. Siphoning If the water that pumps from the machine goes right back into the machine after the spin cycle, it may be because your washer is siphoning the water from a laundry tub with a slow drain, back into the washer. Try to improve the draining of the laundry tub. (Is there something stuck in the drain?) Also, be sure the drain hose doesn't reach more than about 4 inches into the laundry tub. If it does, cut off the excess. Water-inlet valve Water-inlet valves eventually fail. One problem that may develop with a water-inlet valve is that it can no longer completely shut off when the electricity is turned off to it. Then, the valve may leak and drip water into the clothes tub--you may notice that your washer has water in it when you haven't used it for a few days. To fix this, replace the valve.

My spacemaker will not drain or function in spin cycle

Hello & Welcome to FixYa

When the unit is unable to drain it will not even work in spin cycle, the problem is with blocked drain/drain pump filter which should be cleaned. If after cleaning the problem comes back then the drain pump needs replacement. Please get back to me if you have any other questions.

Hello: I have a tenant who is having problems with a GE Spacemaker washer/dryer -Stylemaster # is 622866-A. Here is how she describes the problem: ...it seems as though the washer isn't functioning...

If a spin and drain problem you can pull the front off to see if perhaps a small item (ie. sock or like size item) is stuck between basket and tub or in the drain hose? If it is a wash time problem that would be another direction.

Washer won't spin and empty the water out of the

Shirley, it may be the drain pump is obstructed or possibly the lid switch is broken. If you washed bath mats or rubber backed rugs recently i would go for the pump. If you washed a semi bulky item with a tendency to float I would go for the switch.
Get me a model number and I can help you with dis-assembly if you'd like further help!
