Question about Computers & Internet

Vista 64 simply does not see the drive. Don't tell me to find a driver for it. I've spent money and hours trying to locate that, and it doesn't happen. Oddly, I installed Vista 64 with this drive!

I did as you asked and the drive does not show up. I have a Sabrent Floppy drive with various crd readers that shows up. My hard drive shows up but not the DVD drive. It worked fine on Windows XP, and Xandros Linux before. However, this is a newer FoxCon Motherboard w/ upgraded AMD Chip etc., the previous motherboard was an ASUS. It is my only DVD?CD Drive

I just barely installed vista 64 and the drive disappeared. All the connections are correct. The hard drive is a SATA and works fine. The DVD/CD is an IDE and it lights up but that's it. I tried putting an ATA to SATA converter on the back of it, but that didn't help either.

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. I've been in and out of necessity but I also tried your advice, and although things didn't quite proceed step by step as you described, a variation of the approach finally worked! I don't remember exactly how i got to the final screen I needed,(It seems to me there are several avenues in Vista 64 Home Premium to access and explore the HKEY field and they don't all end up in the same place. Regardless when I finally got there I saw the phrase Lower Filter and deleted that. I never did see the phrase Upper Filter. However, I noticed that the first line-Default said DVD Rom or something to that effect and the next line seemed to characterize the component purely as a Cd Rom. So I deleted that. I restarted the computer, and the CD\DVD Player works flawlessly! Thank you for your help! I was at my wits end!

Yes, in the end it was a variation of this solution, but the suggested solution was the real key for me and I am grateful! Thanks!

Hello there

What drive are you referring to? Is it a hard drive, cd-rom drive....? I'm guessing a cd-rom since you say you installed Vista with it. Based on that assumption, if you right click on my computer, go to properties, device manager on the next screen that comes up (should be in the top left I think on Vista) then under DVD/CD-ROM drives do you have anything?

Do you have just the one cd-rom drive and it's not showing up in my computer? Did you just barely install Vista and right away it wasn't there, or did it disappear after time?

Please do not rate my answer until I have a chance to help you fully, please reply back.

If the device is in the device manager then remove it. Then do the following:

    1. Click on the start menu.

    2. in the search box type in “regedit” without the quotation marks.

    3. Maximize the Window and then go ahead and browse until you reach the key listed above.

    4. In the right panel you’ll see something along the lines of
“UpperFilter” and “LowerFilter” you want to click on each “filter” key
and hit delete. Click yes when it asks to confirm if you wish to delete
      the key.

    5. Restart Windows.

    6. Let me know if this works.

Awesome! So glad to hear it, yes sometimes you won't always have both Upper and Lower keys. Anyway, regardless I'm glad we fixed it. Please come back to the site when you get a chance and put that I answered your question or I don't get any credit for the help.

    Thanks so much

You can try to install Webcam driver. You've not mentioned your OS; i think you use Windows 7. But HP only support Vista. You can give a try to download and install Vista driver. In most cases it solves the problem.
Here is the links for Vista 64 bit Webcam driver:

I am trying to install SP1 on Window vista but error 0x80070490 keeps coming up and not letting me install the service pack.

Hi mattnmassey,

This is one of SEVERAL notorious problems brought to you by the eternal headache that is known as Windows Vista. This is a complicated problem, one without a definitive solution, because there are multiple reasons why it happens.

Do you have Vista 32-bit, or Vista 64bit? Post that information here, and once I know which version of the OS you're using, I'll be able to advise you further.

The BAD news is, there is NO simple "one-click " solution to this. You'll have to download and install a 70+ MB patch file as a FIRST step, but I need to know if you have Vista 32 or Vista 64 before we can even begin this process.

I went through this process in May of 2010 when upgrading a Vista system for a client; in all the years I've repaired PCs, this fix was a nightmare. Fixing this problem can take HOURS, with no promise of actually getting SP1 to install. MANY people choose to wipe the HDD and do a clean install of Vista simply because they don't want to spend the time it takes to get this done. I've been repairing PCs since 1993; I cut my teeth on PC-DOS, and to be honest, I GREATLY prefer Linux over ANY Microsoft operating system, but I'm willing to give this a shot if you are.

Keep in mind that it is very possible that NOTHING we do will fix this problem; sometimes you simply have to start with a clean slate in order to get Vista SP1 and SP2 installed, but I do hope you'll make the effort to install the System Update Readiness Tool BEFORE you make a decision about wiping the hard drive.

Tell us which version of Vista you have (32- or 64-bit), and we'll work from there.

Never install a new operating system for at least 18 months. 55% of people that use Vista are having problems. There is a patch/upgrade for Vista at Dell dated 9/10/2007 There is also a newer driver for Vista dated 4/5/2007.
Here is the link for both:
