Question about Kenmore Elite 45986 Front Load Washer

1 Answer

Just got my front load Kenmore washer yesterday. I followed directions very carefully for using the bleach dispenser on the first load of wash. It seemed to work fine. But when I did a second load (darker colours) I discovered that several items had bleach spilled on them and are now ruined. The same thing happened with the third load, even though I had not added bleach at any time except for the first load of whites. Why did this happen and is there any recourse? I now have to replace 2 pairs of pants, 2 shirts and 3 towels. Very frustrating!!

The dispenser is faulty. it did not release all the bleach out on your first load as it should have. call the store and complain, this should not happen!

Re: Kenmore Elite Washer 45996-there is mold in detergent and softner container but more on the holes above it when I pull that tray out to clean it--it is very difficult to clean those holes upside down....

The most effective way to clean mold is with bleach. If you have an empty spray bottle, mix a solution of 1 part bleach to 4 parts water. Use the spray bottle to direct the spray at every affected area and let sit for about an hour. Now, put a small amount of bleach in each container (2 ounces) and directly in the tub itself. Run a full wash cycle with (no clothes in the tub) the settings for whites. When the cycle has ended you may want to run another empty cycle if you can still smell bleach to be sure no hidden residue gets on your colored clothes. Be careful when spraying the bleach you don't spray towards yourself.

Kenmore/Sears 417.43142200 bleach dispenser not dispensing

Before you do anything, make sure that the plastic part in the bleach dispenser container is pushed in. Fill with bleach to the "max" line, written on the plastic part. Start the wash cycle and make sure that water goes into the bleach dispenser. Once water flows into the dispenser, the bleach/water mixture rises and should automatically dispense into the washer. We had this same problem. We removed the dispenser unit and took it to the sink. We then filled it with water and it started coming out from the bottom automatically. So sort of suction is caused from the amount of water and it starts to flow. Basically, you aren't adding enough bleach into the dispenser if the water flows into it as the wash cycle runs.

My HE washer doesn't dispense the fabric softner

Try removing the dispenser cup - and washing the inner cup thoroughly- run a sanitary cycle with whites and chlorine bleach mold and mildew likes to haunt these front loaders - be sure to run a bleach hot water cycle once weekly

Whirlpool bleach dispenser not dispensing properly

It sounds like the bleach dispenser is clogged or has a crack in it. What we do, is when we bleach our clothes and I know that this is extra work, but we wait until the washing machine is full of water, then add the bleach directly to the wash.

Can I use color safe bleach in my new cabrio, and if so where do I put it?

According to the manual on pages 12 & 13.

1.
Place a load of sorted clothes into the washer. See “Laundry
Tips.”
■ Load evenly to maintain washer balance. Mix large and
small items. Items should move easily through the wash
water.
■ Load only to the top of the basket as shown. Overloading
can cause poor cleaning. Items need to move easily
through the wash water.
2. Pour measured powdered or liquid High Efficiency detergent
into the detergent dispenser. Always use the detergent
dispenser, and do not put detergent directly onto clothes in
the washer.
3. Add color-safe bleach (powdered or liquid) to this dispenser,
if needed. Be sure to match powdered color-safe bleach with
powdered detergent or match liquid color-safe bleach with
liquid detergent.
4. Pour measured liquid chlorine bleach into the liquid chlorine
bleach dispenser, if needed. Bleach is diluted and
automatically dispensed at the proper time during the wash
cycle.
■ Do not overfill. Do not dilute. Do not use more than 1 cup
(250 mL) for a full load. Use less with a smaller load size.
■ Follow the garment and the chlorine bleach
manufacturer’s directions for proper use.
■ To avoid spilling, use a cup with a pouring spout. Do not
let bleach splash, drip, or run down into the washer basket.
■ At the end of the cycle, a small amount of water may be
left in the dispenser. This is normal.
NOTE: Use only liquid chlorine bleach in this dispenser.

5. Pour measured liquid fabric softener into the fabric softener
dispenser, if desired.
■ Do not overfill. The dispenser holds 3 oz (94 mL), or a
capful of fabric softener.
■ The fabric softener is dispensed in the final rinse. If Extra
Rinse is selected, the fabric softener will be dispensed
during the Extra Rinse.
■ Do not spill or drip any fabric softener onto the clothes.
■ At the end of the cycle, a small amount of water may be
left in the dispenser. This is normal.
NOTE: Use only liquid fabric softener in this dispenser.
6. Close the washer lid.
7. Press POWER. This turns on the washer display.
8. Select a Wash Cycle. See “Cycles.”
9. Select the desired Modifiers. See “Modifiers.”
10. Select an Option, if desired. See “Options.”
11. Select Delay Wash, if desired. See “Delay Wash” in the
“Modifiers” section.
12. Press START. The wash cycle begins, and the display shows
the estimated remaining time. The lid will lock.
NOTE: If you do not press Start within 5 minutes of pressing
Power, the washer automatically shuts off.

The way that I read the manual, your color safe bleach would go in the detergent dispenser. Your liquid chlorine bleach would go in the bleach dispenser.

DARK CLOTHES END UP WITH BLEACH DOT STAINS

Hello sa-kap,

yYu said,

Hi, I have a top loading Kenmore Elite washer (don't know model #) from the year 2002. It has the automatic bleach dispenser. The problem is that if someone has washed clothes with bleach sometime during the day and someone else comes along and washes dark clothes, the clothes get ruined with dot bleach stains. It appears that the bleach remains in the washer. Any tips or do I need to buy a new washer? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you
V.C.My problem is similar to that which VCasabona is having. Not just dots occur but often big splotches. It may not even be just a colored load following whites on the same day but, on occasion, it occurs on the next laundry day, a week later with the first load that is not the whites with bleach. Also, my wife adds the bleach to the filled washer (old school, I guess), rather than pouring into the dispenser. My water pressure, which is not at issue, is not what I need to address to remedy the situation. I have noted that the ledge that is part of the floating tub had some build-up of deposits, some of which may have been bleach. These I've reached in with damp cloths and removed as best I can. I've run full, empty loads through hoping this would flush out any lingering bleach. Because the occurrences run intermittently from infrequently to frequently I cannot be sure if any of my attempts to remedy the problem are having any effect. I've guessed at the model # of the Kenmore top load washer we own since Dec of 1999

Sounds like some water is remaining in the tub after the pump gets done emptying the washer.
So its the pump!
The Kenmore Elite is a good washer and I believe worth fixing!
Unless the cost is half the price of the cost of a replacement.

Bless You,
