It could be in the power supply, open the unit up and find the power supply. Look to see if there are any caps that are bulging on top. If they are, they need to be replaced. Look to see if any components are burnt or look like they have got hot. If you know how to use a meter check the values of the resistors and any transistors that just does'nt look right. Check for bad solder joints. If a solder joint looks dull it may be suspect. Hope this is helpful. Ps: replace all components with the same value, this is if you understand a little about electronic.

Don't replaced anything until you jumper the power amp in jack to the preamp out jack [or effects send jack to the effects return jack]. There may only be oxidation in the contacts of these jacks. If the normal sound level comes back-either clean the two jacks or have them replaced.

Marshall MG100hdfx malfunctioning

Quick suggestion,
Often it is the socket, usually wired to back panel.
Remove chassis, clean sockets, re-solder both ends, on some Marshalls wires soldered to pins on PCB, re-solder pins as well
Experience has shown this will fix 99% of this kind of problem.

I have a Marshall MG100DFX. I turned my amp on a few days ago and I heard this loud sound (not the standard hum/buzz that you hear when you plug a guitar into an amp; it sounded more like a foghorn). Now,...

I would try hitting the side of the amp before turning it on. There may be a loose piece of solder or other conductive particle stuck somewhere. Bang the cabinet rather hard with your fist. If that doesn't help it might be a loose solder connection at a resistor or capacitor but a tech should check that out.

The FX portion of the board is clipping with no input signal present, there is no sound output at all. Also, none of the mute/pfl LEDs light up on channels 1-12.

There are several clipping indicators on this board. Do you mean that the small vertical display to the left of the FX selection window is maxed out from top to bottom? I will assume that you have ALL the FX inout knobs CCW for all channels AND the FX slider all the way down. Also does the FX selection knob work to change the effect number? Does the rest of the board work? WILL the effects pass sound when you send it through the effects? You say no sound, but was that just to say with no sound sent to it it still is clipping, or that it will not pass sound?

I have the Xenyx 2442Fx for about 6 months. I know it's still with in the warrenty period, but I have something rather strange happening to the digital fx on Aux 3. This is a bit of a long winded one but I...

This sounds like a breakdown in the digital circuits. You are seeing/hearing digital noise. This is most likely an IC that is breaking down internally. This will take some time to find/fix. Use the unit for your gig, then return it under warranty for repair. Pay close attention and note WHEN the problem occurs. If possible, try this multiple times and record any pattern to when it happens. The more detailed the "timing" the easier it will be for the repair shop to reproduce the problem and fix it.

Keep us posted.

The digital FX on my Marshall AVT100 amp do not work, regardless of the footswitch. What do you think the problem is?

This is likely to be an internal problem. Check the +5 volt power to the DFX board as a first step.

Something has blown?

The output transistors may have shorted and caused a resistor to smoke (literally!!). This should not be too expensive a repair for anyone that works on these amps. Figure on $20-$30 for parts.
