The files you are getting are the correct size. Each image will vary in size depending on how much detail is in the photo. The important thing to look for is the dimensions, 4416 x 3312 which are correct for the sensor in the G10.
The RAW files for the G10 are probably 14-15MB, which you can get if you change to RAW instead of jpeg. This, of course, will take up a lot more space on your hard drive, and you'll need to buy more space. It will, however, give you more information to work with if you plan on doing any heavy photo editing.
Just as a recommendation, hard drives do fail, so buy an external drive for backup if you haven't already.
Happy Shooting!
Do you have lot of movies, pictures or programs, or all othe above. How big is the HD (hard drive)?
You could upgrade the hd, buy bigger.. or reduce the usage by moving movies and pictures to CDs or DVDs and also remove any programs that you have not used forever.. Control Panel, Add / Remove Programs, Select, then remove, things you know about but don't use. Don't reccomend removing items you don't know.
Another way to clear some space is to delete some internet tempory files.
From your browser, open the Tools menu, then the Internet Options, then find Delete browsing history, temporary files. This varies slightly by browser version. These temp files can use up maybe a gig of space by themselves.
When you say it gives you a blank window did you leave it for a while - I have to do that with my 500gb hard drive which has a lot of stuff on it and it takes a while to read what it needs to before it shows the files / folders
maybe a defrag if you can get it back up and running and also try it on a different usb port on the back of the same computer it was working on
You think you can try photo recovery software to see if you can rescue the lost photos or movies, here are some you may rely on. Both programs can also recover videos and music. Photo Recovery Software (for Windows) Mac Photo Recovery Software (for Mac OS X)
Be careful: Before your pictures and videos are recovered, do not attempt to save more files to the memory card in case the original files(your pictures) are overwritten.
If you did not get the software with the camera, you may be able to use a few of the many free digital camera programs for free use on the net. It may be worth your time to buy a card reader and not use the camera. For one thing the card reader is a lot faster, in my estimation than using the camera to transfer pictures and movies.
You may then be able to use the software to load the pictures from the hard drive.
