HP dv9000 Screen Hinge Plague - And HP won't make good on it!

The other day my left hinge broke at the transition too. Anyone doing a little surfing will see that this problem is rampant through HP laptops. HP was even offering a free repair until May 31, 2009. Check out the link below. http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&docname=c01611512#step2 Just got off the phone with HP tech support trying to get my laptop covered. Tech guy wouldn't budge. Asked for his supervisor - same thing. I've kicked it up to a case manager - waiting for a call back. Can't believe they won't make good on it. If they don't fix it, this will be the last HP I'll ever buy. Stand behind your known problem HP or you'll be back in the dumper like you were several years ago when it was known you built a **** product!

This doesnt really seem like a question, the only way you will get this repaired for free is if your warranty still covers that product. If not, ask how much the repair will cost or buy the parts, find a technical manual and do it yourself if you have had enough experiance with computers.

I just started getting this problem myself. I'll let you know if I find a solution. For the time being, I'm pinching the joint with my fingers as hard as I can when I open or close it.

HP dv9000 display works fine on battery but not AC

It's either the motherboard or the power supply.

I'd start with testing the power supply. If you've got a multi-meter great. Just measure the voltage and see if it fluctuates.

If not, check with a local repair shop to see if they have a power adapter they could use to test with.

HP *had* issued service alert 08112101 which covers the left display hinge failure.
HP Notebook Left Display Hinge Program
HP Pavilion Notebook
model series affected: dv9000, dv9100, dv9200, dv9400.

This program recently ended on May 31, 2009, but HP may still allow for a grace period.

Otherwise, you'll need the following:
Display panel back panel enclosure (single lamp) 432957-001
Display hinge kit (single lamp) 432963-001
LCD bezel w/ webcam (single lamp) 432955-001

Trained pro's should be able to do this in about 20mins, there is partial lower case disassembly and complete LCD housing dis/re-assembly.

My husband tried to fix my machine

It sounds to me that your husband may have loosened one of the cables while repairing the hinge, i would suggest you take it to a local repair shop, you shouldent get charged more then 200$ at the very most (I would charge less then 150$ for this type of repair at my shop, but i cant speak for jacksonville).

Most likely nothing needs to be replaced but HP will overcharge you for typically sub par work.
