Flush problem with toto toilet

We have the same problem with a toto dartmouth toilet during the flush cycle. The flapper fails to seal most of the time and I must manually lift it in place to seal the leak. I have tried numerous remedies to no avail. Most of the time we leave the tank lid off fixture. Very frustrating and the toilet is brand new.

If your hooked to city water it can be cause of the high water pressure comes across and keeps flapper from seating rite. Take a empty plastic bottle, cut it in half long ways. flush toilet then place plastic bottle between fill valve and flapper, trying to devert water away from where flapper seats. good luck.

You need a new flapper. They are about 5 dollars at home depot it will come with chain already attached.

Toliet won't get rid of solids

first shorten the chain from flush lever to the flapper valve by one or two links at a time until flushing properly

second the flapper valve might need a wipedown as well as its seal (top edge of tube where water goes down into bowl) the leaking is because the flapper valve is not seating properly.. you may need to replace the flapper itself.. easy to do, and a common part at hardware store.

Toto toilet, flapper doesn't stay up long enough to flush

One of two things is the problem. First, make sure that you have a tight chain with little slack. If there's too much slack, the flapper won't catch in the passing air to stay up. Second, the flapper is not correct for that style of toilet. You might want to look into purchasing a new Kolby filter that has a removeable cone in the center. Move that cone to 12 o'clock to allow the maximum amount of water to run through the flush valve. If the flapper you have now is flat, it needs to have a cone in the center on the underside.

Open the tank and examine the linkages between the handle and the flapper. If the handle is sticking, it sounds like there may be either mineral buildup or a stuck chain.

Toto Dartmouth toilet flapper/chain design flaw

Your right this is a poor design. Space was the main reason for this and functionality was sacrificed. However, you can get a replacement rod at a major plumbing store. You could rig it by attaching a stem to the valve assembly. Allow the chain or rubber piece to slide over it. It is kind of like putting a permanent finger in the path of the chain to give it a "direct" lift up. This would then force the chain to go up instead of at an angle.

Toilet flushng

it sounds to me like depending on the flapper installed that your flush arm chain is too long and the flapper is not flipping back far enough to do its job. Take the lid off the tank and rotate the flapper up and back to see if it flushes correctly. if it does then your chain is too long and should be shortened. Hope this helps please rate me
