Question about HP Pavilion DV9650US Notebook

1 Answer

Left hinge broke and no screen.

Please help, here is a story.

I have Pavilion dv9308nr laptop, couple of weeks ago my left hinge broke and Hp wont fix it cause I’m out of warranty. When my hinge broke I was still doing some work on that laptop, then all of a sudden the screen went black, everything gone and I tried to turn it back on, but it turns off and on every 15 sec automatically and nothing on the screen.

I found a website and followed the article on how to replace hinges and back lid, i did ok everything looks like brand new, but still no screen and laptops keeps turning off and on every 15 sec. I did a lot of testing that they were telling us, such as removed a battery in order to get rid of static alec. Still nothing. What i also discovered is that if you keep pressing F10 key when you turning on notebook it will stop turning of by itself, but still no screen.

I ordered one inverter just in case and i’m still waiting for shipping. I will try to replace it and maybe everything going to be alright. Cause if it turns out that my motherboard is dead then this notebook is no longer useful. To much money for replacement motherboard it doesn’t worth it, better to add couple bucks and buy new one.

Questing is… Do you guys have any ideas why notebook keeps turning off and on? Maybe when the hinges were broken and i pulled the video cable which is under left hinge and cut it inside somehow? I just can’t get it. So when it starts to boot bios doesn’t see the screen and shuts it of maybe. Any Idea.

Its possible that there is a cable loose causing a short, which could have happened when the hinge broke.

This would explain why you are not seeing any display. To test if the display is bad, or if the computer is just not working, you can plug in an external monitor. It will help you to see if you nicked the cable, or if the system board is going.

Pavilion dv9308nr PC Notebook: hp dv9308nr wont power on all the time... works if...

Due to regular use of the notebook, some static charges tend to stay in the computer, and sometimes results in not allowing the computer to function properly.

Please follow the power drain procedure to confirm the same:

1. Disconnect the AC Adapter.
2. Remove the Battery.
3. Hold the Power button down for 30seconds to 1 minute.
4. Put the Battery in.
5. Reconnect the AC adapter.
6. Turn on the Notebook power.
7. Restart the Notebook.

If the Notebook boots up you may fix the battery back. Try restarting the computer only with the AC power, without the battery & vice-versa. If the issue still persists then I request you to reset the memory modules, as sometimes the memory module connection get loose.

HP *had* issued service alert 08112101 which covers the left display hinge failure.
HP Notebook Left Display Hinge Program
HP Pavilion Notebook
model series affected: dv9000, dv9100, dv9200, dv9400.

This program recently ended on May 31, 2009, but HP may still allow for a grace period.

Otherwise, you'll need the following:
Display panel back panel enclosure (single lamp) 432957-001
Display hinge kit (single lamp) 432963-001
LCD bezel w/ webcam (single lamp) 432955-001

Trained pro's should be able to do this in about 20mins, there is partial lower case disassembly and complete LCD housing dis/re-assembly.

Laptop Screen SPLIT

I HAVE THE ANSWER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I had the same problem with mine. HP is aware of the issue. All the PC's of this associated moddle have the same defect and HP will fix it with no cost to you. They will even send you a box to ship it in, even if you have no warenty! And to prove this is no hoax, I will perform a magic trick everyone! I will predict which henge it is. As you are facing the screen, it is the left! Oh, man! How did I know? you ask. How is this man so amazing?
Because the defect is only in the left henge. In fact when you call in your model number, the HP phone service actually says, "if you are calling about the left henge on your display, hang up and dial (866) 671-7362." You will notice this oddity if you dial HP support at (800) 474-6836 and say "technical support; computer; notebook PC; Pavilion" and your product model number. Real cute huh? If you look online, HP has put out a website with all the pc models affected by this defect and it is no small list. HP screwed up, but call the first number and have them check your model number and they are very nice about fixing your machine.
