In our warehouse we have a few printers that are getting these memory error messages, when we use a certain brand of compatible cartridge. Could this really have anything to do with the cartridge itself, or is it something else? If it's something else, does anyone know what would be?

First Could I ask you which Make and Model Number are we talking about ?
For Example if it is Canon or Xerox theirs Chips on the Cartridge that resets the counter and verifies if it's a genuine cartridge, Yup manufacturers are getting tricky that way.
