The easiest way is to borrow a mouse and allow it to be discovered. This will give you the device tab in control panel. It should then work with your mouse.

Right-click on the desktop, then click "Personalize."

Click "Change mouse pointers." This opens the mouse properties window.

Click the "Gestures" tab in the mouse properties window.

Click the "Use Vertical Scroll Function" and "Use Horizontal Scroll Function" check boxes.

Click "OK."

or you might

click "Start" button in the lower left corner of your desktop.

Scroll up and hit "Control Panel."

Choose "Mouse."

Click the "Device Settings" tab.

Highlight the touchpad in the list of devices. Hit the "Enable" button.

Hit the "Apply" button and hit the "OK" button.

to disable

Go to the control panel to the Mouse options and click on the Gestures tab and there is an

option that under Virtual Scrolling "Enable Virtual Scrolling" disable that option and that

Hi, my laptop mouse pad works fine but at the side and bottom where i can use it to scroll down the page wont work, can sum one tell me how to get it back again, thank you

go to the control panel > mouse and pointing devices > go to device settings tab > highlight the touchpad listed and click on settings > look half way down the list where it say "scrolling" click on that and make sure both vertical and horizontal scrolling is checked. If it is and the scrolling still doesn't work,

go to control panel > device manager > scroll down to mouse and pointing devices > highlight the touchpad and disable it > wait 45 seconds, then re-enable it > hit apply and ok. Reboot

HP Pavilion dv7-1285dx vertical scroll no longer works

the problem is with your drivers only:-
1. you dont have installed the drivers for ur touchpad if is that so, then it is not properly installed . pls uninstall old drivers reinstall the touchpad drivers and restart the system and the problem will be resolved. doing this will reset all the changed values that you don't know and load the default values which will work fine. 2. Secondly you can also try by going in control panel and go to tochpad settings , reset to default. it will work. but first one is best thing

Hp dv7-1285dx touchpad vertical scroll no longer working

Whatever be the laptop, HP bundles the necessary drives in the C drive under the folder SwSetup. You'll find the touchpad driver in this folder. For the steps in installing and making the touch pad work follow

Touchpad Vertical Scroll zone not functioning

you can activate this by
1. going to the control panel on your vista machine, make sure you are in classic view
(2) double click the mouse icon.
(3) From here you will select the "Device Settings" tab,
(4) make sure your Synaptic Pointing device is highlighted and then click the settings button located directly below the "port" column, this will bring up properties for this device.
(5) With all categories in the left hand column collapsed, select "Virtual Scrolling" here is where you will find the box that needs to be checked to enable vertical and/or horizontal scrolling.
(6) make sure the "Enable Vertical Scrolling" box is checked.
(7) don't forget to hit apply!
I hope this helped some people. I am using a HP dv7 so your menu may look a little different. Happy holidays.

SCROLL PAD SOLUTION THAT WORKED FOR ME!!!

Well what I did was I went to CONTROL PANEL, went to the HARDWARE AND DEVICES, went to the DEVICE MANAGER which has a list of Devices. I found the MOUSE DEVICE on the list, right clicked it went to PROPERTIES go to the DRIVER TAB, and then click on ROLL BACK DRIVER. Restart your computer. and then repeat everything again. CONTROL PANEL>DEVICES>MOUSE>PROPERTIES>DRIVER TAB when u get back to the driver tab of your mouse device. click on UPDATE DRIVER. It will then find the driver automatically reinstall it for you and then restart your computer. HOPE this fixes your scroll pad. It did for me.
