Procedure for powers supply board

Same problem as others with what appears to be a failure on the power board. I want to try and replace TOP224Y on the power board myself. I've removed the bezel and not sure how to proceed with accessing the power board under the screen. Any suggestions on how that should be done without causing damage to anything.

How to repair the power supply board of the LG M2277WDP TV

I don't have a specific answer, but suggest the following: look for electrolytic caps (small cans) that have leaked or bulged. This is the most common failure due to heat. Replace all you can identify.

Power supply main and secondary fuses value and rate

5A for primary and 3.75A for secondary; we've used 4A there as well and frankly even 5A as well won't make much difference.

Be advised that when those fuses are blown you have a bunch of other things to replace on the board as well and unless you do them all there is always risk of a repeat failure. I am reminded about it once or twice every month :-)

Unelss you are a seasoned professional my advice is that you do not try to replace a power failure that resulted in both fuses being burned and let others do it for you:

I have a few year old 47LG50 and the other day I turn the tv on and there was just dark color on the screen. I tried to turn the tv off from the remote and the tv power button but had to unplug the tv. It...

Good day!

That problem is usually happen when the power supply got partially defects.

Follow this simple procedure on how to repair it on your own:

  1. Open the back cover of your TV by removing all screws at the back.
  2. After you open the cover, the internal parts of TV reveal such as power supply board system board and inverter board
  3. Next, look at the power supply. It is the one that connected on the power cord and its usually compose of common parts like capacitors, resistors and power transistors with heat sink.
  4. After you found the power supply board, try to look the capacitors and see the actual appearance of it.If the capacitors looks like leak or bulge on top that is defective replace it with the same type, ratings and value.Because the leak capacitors can cause of voltage drop and power failure.Use soldering iron and soldering ****** to replace it and be careful to do that, because capacitor have a polarity (+/-) terminal.
  5. Finally,If you already replace the bad capacitors with the new one.try to plug in your TV and power it ON to test it.
I hope this solution will be helpful.Thank you and good luck.

My boyfriend's tv won't turn on.. He says when he tries to, the tv's red light just keeps flashing at him. Have any idea whats wrong with it?

Sounds like a power supply failure... probably caused by bad capacitors on the power supply board.

the power supply board can in some cases be repaired, but in other cases will need replacement.
Apower supply repair is likely to cost around £80 and a new board can be between £80- £200 depending on make model.

Have lcd tv samsung. Had a power surge now tv will turn on but no picture or sound. What could be the problem?.

If you get no standby light or error blinks, the power supply board is bad. Most likely the power surge will take out some capacitors on the power supply. Replace the power supply board to solve the problem. This is a common failure caused by a power surge.

Note: If you are looking to do it the cheap way, you could try looking for bad capacitors (visually inspect for ones that look "bubbly") and replacing just those but it is not guaranteed to fix the TV as the power supply could have other issues and just cause the capacitors to bubble again.

My LT37HVS 37 in. tv clicks constantly when plugged in.

The main power supply is probably failing, or there is a failure on one of the boards that is causing the power supply to go in to protection mode. Most of the time this type of fault comes from the power supply. It is very possible that a number of the electrolytic capacitors on the power supply board are failing. It is also possible that there are other types of component failures.

Most technicians will not service the supply at all. They will replace the power supply board, as like any of the boards in this type of TV technology.

Power Up Problems

7 blink error is 8.6 volt error on that model. usually tied to y sustain board located on left side of set looking from back. disconnect y main from power supply and power on and if comes on verify power supply primary voltages located on label on pdp itself. if voltages present you would need to replace that board as not designed for component level repair. however if you find failed components like swollen caps or burnt ic's you could replace those. also when replacing the y main board there are two y buffer boards to left of main board that also would be recommended to be replaced at same time as they work as circuit and replacing one board without other could cause failure to other boards still in set

Faulty power supply unit?

You can contact the manufacture to purchase the power supply module.

However, there are other boards in the set that can easily cause the power supply failure because something went defective. It is also possible that the power supply is not defective, but it is in protect mode because of a failure on another board, or in some other device in the set.

The tech would follow procedure from the service manual using the proper instrumentation and diagnostics to determine the defective board(s). Then he would replace the necessary modules and or parts to get the set working again.

In the end if you try fixing this yourself, you can end up spending a few hundred dollars on a power supply and only find that it blows again or goes in to protect mode because the original fault was not determined and corrected.
