Good luck.
if you can get the part -- its a trackball assembly btw not just the ball itself
you press down on the silver ring around the ball and turn, the cover will fall out. use a small probe and lift the assembly out.
many times there's fuzz in there -- check it out before you buy a new assembly

What is the symptom with the trackball? Not moving in a certain direction? Usually some vigourous movement of the trackball will dislodge and clean any junk underneath the ball.

My blackberry 9000 won't scroll down

Hi there. You can replace the trackball on the Bold 9000 by taking the back cover off. You will need to take the battery out and undo a few screws in order to get the back plate off. Once the back plate is off, you can clean the track ball using rubbing alcohol and a Q-Tip. This will help with your scrolling problem. If you aren't comfortable with this, a mobile repair shop will help you. Good luck! Alex

I'm using bold 9000. My trackball suddenly won't go downwards. Up and sides motions are fine. But going down just won't work. It has numb sensation when I try to slide in down, like it is too slide-y. The...

The trackball on these devices can become clogged with dirt, especially if frequently carried in a handbag or pocket. The trackball can be cleaned by yourself if you are prepared to dismantle the phone, and instructions can be found here:

Trackball from bb bold won't scrool down... What shall I do???

If this is the case, try to reset the phone to factory defaults. If that doesn't solve the problem, you probably have a bad scroll key and this needs to be changed by a cellphone technician.

I hope this helps. Thanks and have a nice day. Merry Christmas.

Trackball gets stuck on BB 8100 Pearl

You can actually pop the trackball out and clean it and the sensors. remove (gently) the silver ring around the ball. if you break it you can buy new ones cheap.. it just snaps in to place. then the ball will fall out and you can take a q-tip and rubbing alcohol and clean it.

Trackball does not functioning properly

Settings could help some, but I tried that originally with my ball as the first step, and it did nothing. It was definitely the ball that was broken (I frequently use lotion and other products on my hands, and I think that created the buildup.) I would suggest getting a new one to fix that issue, if you can. I got a new blue trackball (go knicks!) at

Blackberry curve 8310 trackball wont go down

Hi there

I had exactly the same problem. I spent a while trying to use a qtip to flush out the dirt but this didn't work.
I eventually sorted it by carefully lifting the cover (use a credit card to lift it up - slip it in the gap above the y key).
Then carefully hold the bb upside down and the trackball will fall out. Catch it in your hand.
Remove any obvious grit. I also used something out of a manicure set. I am not sure what it is called but it looks like a small tick remover. Anyway using one side I carefully slotted it into the small gap between the rubber ring and the trackball and lots of other bits of grit fell out.
Then once it was clean, I popped it back into the bb and refitted the cover - making sure to put the legs in the correct position.

It now works fine

Hope this helps
